Modeling a NM patient point mutation in Cofilin-2 in vitro and in vivo indicate that both the nucleotide exchange and actin severing functions of Cofilin-2 are impaired. These predict the functional deficits found in Cofilin-2 NM patients.
Congratulations to @BriChristophers for her amazing thesis defense!
Using a fly model of Nemaline myopathy, Bri provides new insights to this disease. Stay tuned for the paper!
PhD down, MD to go!

Issue 6 is now complete!
On the cover: a dissected third instar Drosophila larva stained for sarcomeric ZASP-GFP (green) and filamentous actin (phalloidin, red). For more details, see the Research Article by Zapater i Morales et al.

ALT Volume 150 (6) March 2023 issue of Development: a dissected third instar Drosophila larva stained for sarcomeric ZASP-GFP (green) and filamentous actin (phalloidin, red) shows the body wall muscles from the thoracic to abdominal segments. The mirror image (right) is rendered to emphasize the muscles and subcellular divisions.
Hope that the images from @zapatercarolina (cover @Dev_journal and #FluorescenceFriday) will get you to check out her paper in this issue of @Dev_journal! journals.biologists.com/dev/… Tropomodulin loss impacts more than sarcomeres in the growing muscle cell!
... misshaped and internalized nuclei with altered transcription. In collab with P. Carman and R. Dominquez (UPenn), she showed that fly Tmod also acts an actin capping protein. We propose that this function is required at multiple subcellular locations in the muscle cell.

This was so much fun!!
Thank you for including me in this phenomenal group of scientific leaders and thank you @BayliesLab for the heartwarming words!!!! 💪🏻⭐️

You always hear that your PhD cohort should be friendly one but boy, are we at Cornell a family. Exams, experiments, moves, travels, breakups, engagement parties - couldn’t have done first yr without these (and 15 others) BCMBers. ❤️

Technician position available asap @LabTajbakhsh. Please RT.
Congrats Ben from your @WeillCornellGS #BCMB Co-Directors! We know that you will do great things in @HiteLabMSKCC !
Seven years ago, when I left home as a first-generation college student, I had no idea where life would take me. Yesterday I passed my PhD qualifying exam @WeillCornellGS & @sloan_kettering and can't wait to see what the future holds - thank you to all my mentors along the way!
Congrats Jeanine from @WeillCornellGS #BCMB!!!!
We know how awesome you are! @WeillCornellGS #BCMB That F31 has your name written all over it!
Rejected for the NSF #GRFP for the second time. Came closer this time (good reviews! honorable mention!) but in the end still empty-handed. It's important to share both successes and failures in science. Next try: NIH F31 in the fall!
Muscles are amazing! Enjoy their beauty in the fly larva. Congrats @zapatercarolina , an awesome #BCMB @WeillCornellGS PhD student. Stay tuned for more images like these!!
We have a new featured image in our site. Check the 'cathedral of muscle' submitted by @zapatercarolina from the @BayliesLab
