If you're too sick to work, never tell manager: • I’m really sick. • I can't come in today • Can I please take today off? Instead say:

“I’m unwell and won’t be able to work today. I’m taking a sick day to recover and expect to return tomorrow. I’ll let you know if anything changes.”

Why the first 3 are wrong: 1. “I’m really sick.” It focuses on proving how sick you are instead of clearly communicating your absence. You don't need to overshare symptoms. 2. “I can't come in today.” It can sound abrupt and incomplete. Clearly state that you're taking sick leave and, where possible, when you expect to return. 3. “Can I please take today off?” If you're genuinely too sick to work, don't present legitimate sick leave as a personal favor. Notify your boss professionally and follow company policy.

DO: 1. Inform your boss as early as reasonably possible. 2. Clearly state that you won't be working. 3. Keep your explanation short. 4. Give an expected return date if you reasonably can. 5. Follow your company's sick-leave procedure. 6. Update your boss if your situation changes. 7. Hand over genuinely urgent work where practical.

DON'T: 1. Give a long story about your symptoms. 2. Exaggerate how sick you are. 3. Apologize repeatedly. 4. Promise to work while you're supposed to be recovering. 5. Say, “I'll try to come in later,” when you're clearly unfit. 6. Disappear without notifying your boss. 7. Turn sick leave into a negotiation. But we all know the best way is just not to get sick, the easiest way to do that is make sure you have your nurtrients...

Magnesium supplementation was linked to lower body weight, better blood sugar, and improved insulin resistance in a 2026 study. Insulin helps regulate how your body stores and uses energy, and magnesium is required for healthy weight loss and burning more fat during sleep.

Which magnesium? Glycinate, the form bound to glycine that's gentle on your stomach and supports relaxation and sleep. I take 200mg and fall asleep easier, wake up less often, and feel more rested in the morning. This is the magnesium I keep buying: lvnta.com/lv_0RR5Hk0kg7A3mV8…

What a low-intelligence employee does: “Boss, I'm extremely sick. I barely slept last night and I have a terrible headache. I really don't think I can work today. Can I please take the day off? I'm really sorry. If you desperately need me, I can try to work from home.”

What a high-intelligence employee does: “Good morning. I’m unwell and won’t be able to work today. I’m taking a sick day to recover and expect to return tomorrow. I’ll update you if that changes.”

The difference: The first employee tries to convince the boss that they're sick enough to deserve a day off. The second communicates the absence clearly, professionally, and responsibly. Being sick doesn't require a sales pitch.
