The much maligned Ragwort is one of THE most important food plants for many insects, as well as being the larval food plant for the Cinnabar moth. 7 Gatekeepers were dining out on this little patch, along with numerous smaller creatures. @savebutterflies @LeicsWildlife

How hard is it to do science in a language that’s not your first language? We quantified the severity of #languagebarriers for non-native English speakers when reading/publishing papers and attending/presenting at international conferences. doi.org/10.1371/journal.pbio… 1/9

Extremely disappointed Government are scrapping the Kept Animals Bill. Nonsense Minister blamed Labour for “broadening the scope of the bill” when it had such broad cross party support. Single issue bills will not have the same impact @BIAZA @OfficialZSL @chesterzoo

🚨 BROKEN: Yet another Tory manifesto promise. Govt pledged to ban live animal exports, yet Ministers have just announced they're dropping the Kept Animals Bill which would have done so. This is a total betrayal of trust from the Government. The campaign isn't stopping here.

This really is an extraordinary graphic. While we agonise over the impact of releasing a few Beavers back in the landscape, about 50 million non-native Pheasants are released into the environment each year with not much debate at all.
Just looking back at this paper link.springer.com/article/10… by @TimBlackburn66 and @KevinJGaston for a tutorial I'm running on Monday - this really is an extraordinary figure isn't it? 49% of Britain's bird biomass in August is pheasant.

We are dismayed, disappointed, and deeply concerned. UK Gov has just approved the use of a banned pesticide so powerful; a single teaspoon could kill 1.25 billion bees. This is a huge mistake. If we want to #DefendNature we must #SayNoToNeonics. 👉 wtru.st/say-no-neonics-again

It’s 4am in Montreal and after several years of negotiations, governments have just adopted an historic Global Biodiversity Framework for saving nature. Here’s a thread with my take on what's good and what's bad in it.
