Scenes from Clapham Common. This could have been the socially distanced vigil the community needed to remember Sarah and all the women who have lost their lives to violence. We knew what was going to happen if the event was shut down #ReclaimTheseStreets

I know Lambeth Borough officers made efforts to compromise with the organisers but were overruled from high up. They'll be left to deal with the fallout of this and the further burden it places on already strained community relationships. Very disappointing from Scotland Yard.

Sarah’s death was a tragedy, a blow to her family, her community & UK. As we continue to mourn her, Weʼre raising £20,000 to create Youth clubs ,Safe spaces in her memory inorder to empower girls & Women about their rights. Please chip in. givingway.com/campaign/e9bd9…
Where did this message get lost? “Sarah Everard: Virtual and doorstep vigils held across the UK”

Amazing that the creepy, crawly entitled liberal classes spent so much time telling off decent people for having demonstrations or gatherings, to wear masks, social distance, take vaccines and listen to the science but when it suits them, they do what whatever they want. Pilger
@metpoliceuk have a very bad relationship with communities around London. Cressida Dick needs to step down. Incompetent comes to mind.

Will MPs and @MayorofLondon demand Met Police commissioner Cressida Dick is held to account for tonight's heavy handed policing? #ReclaimTheseStreets

It was supposed to be a vigil, not a protest! Why would you bring a megaphone for a peaceful event that should have been in remembrance to Sarah? I'm glad I didn't go now.

This is NOT a peaceful vigil, not because of the police but because of those who have come there to cause issues!! Why can’t people see that this vigil is being used as an excuse to cause trouble! I’m sorry but a vigil could have been held peacefully for that poor woman

My daughter is 11; I have had to explain (for some time) the imperative for her to master self defence given the tragic reality women face today. Until Men reclaim honour and fully place the Feminine as the instantiating Wisdom of Our world we shall never reverse this malady

Shocking, shameful disturbing - what you’ve done tonight will make women watching this fear men even more, especially police men. If they do this while the world is watching, the question has to be, what would they do behind closed doors. #VIGIL #SarahEverard #Clapham

spiked-online.com/2021/03/13… it’s about listening to Sarah’s poor family and friends and not hijacking with ulterior motives.

A disgraceful reaction from the police. Our democratic values and freedom of expression have been removed by an infectious disease without consent. Power had gone to the state in a manner I find disturbing.
4
Couldn't do it on their own doorsteps? Couldn't resist being idiotic, knowing full well they'd have the backing of some MPs who really ought to know better. Shame on you.
4
Respectful people have been going all day to pay their respects. Maybe you should be thinking how Sarah's family are feeling watching this.

No excuses , hope every last one is fined heavily . I’m sat here with my family as I have been for months , you are a disgrace making excuses for these covidiot .
1
Well, another home goal for the Met. How dare they. Whoever was in charge of halting the vigil needs sacking.
2
"We knew what was going to happen" = threat. They had no right being there, end of.
1
Disgraceful scenes. Far left once again hijacking events for their own nefarious needs. Scum. And where's the MSM?
1
People should mourn the death of Sarah, but as an MP I think your comments about tonight’s vigil against The Met are disgusting. You know that there would be no chance of social distancing and given the current climate your comments are reckless and not worthy of an MP.

The police once again show they are incapable of showing respect to the public
1
Well it wasn't safe regarding Covid was it ? If anyone dies of Covid contracted at this event then it's the people who went who caused it. That's very compassionate isn't it ! The Police were doing their job whilst the pretend bleeding hearts only went to confront the Police.

We are in the middle of a pandemic. Stay at home. Tonight was not the night as tragic as the circumstances are. Protest and hold a vigil for the poor woman when it is safe to do so. I am sure that is what she would have wanted.

on the telly there's peterloo- and then turn on the news a parallel.

This event will be a super spreader event causing the deaths of 100's of innocent people. Think.

Where is cressida dick now.
1
"We knew what was going to happen if the event was shut down" - It's difficult to imagine that the police hierarchy didn't know this too, and indeed prepared for it in some detail. Police presence in daylight hours was near zero when the floral tributes built up for example.

Yet again, people don't like to be told 'no'. The law is the law - there's no exceptions, if you can't get married or attend a funeral in numbers why think you can do this ?

One man took Sarah, not the met police

Typical. People are outraged by groups breaking lockdown rules but the tables turn when the same people are crowding in the park and antagonising police. This helps no-one and most people are just selfishly want to feel like theyre making a difference when they are helping no-one

What are they chanting? Can’t make it out?

Using a poor girls murder to fuel another nonsense movement, shame

Surely it would have been the same people attending?
Protestors who have no respect for Sarah’s parents. Disgraceful law breaking.
