This was a really fun panel and @HariPKrishnan2 & @profplum99 both were excellent as always.
I recently appeared on a provocatively titled "The Economics of Intelligence" panel with the legendary @BenBrey and @profplum99 at the recent Simplify Entering the Fall conference in New York. Many thanks to Patrick Hennessy and @SimplifyAsstMgt 👍

Honestly think that this is one of the best conversations that @BenBrey and I have had (with @brandonjcarl). A VERY rare combination of deep domain expertise of macro and AI 👇 watch it!!
Both sides of the AI trade are wrong hilariously.
Burry is running the 2008 playbook. Ackman says infinite ROI. Tech guys think funding is infinite.
The real driver is token yield: ~13x annual deflation in machine intelligence. That path points to ~8,000x more tokens by 2030.
The tension comes from the fact that someone has to pay for it out of a $115T of global GDP / money supply.
As Yogi Berra warned us, "Prediction is hard, especially of the future" we were fortunate to have @brandonjcarl come on Benny & The Squirrel Ep. 99 and remind us that
"AI Outcomes Carry FAT Tails!" - be wary of anyone with excess conviction.

NAND conroller/systems make Silicon Motion $simo $226.20 reported very strong, beat and raise results, with sales and profits up 131% and 5x's.
But that's hardly the stunning part.
They raised organic sales growth rate for 2027 to 40% and said they would get operating margin expansion as well.
I am at $3 billion and sales and $20-$22 eps for 2027 so it's a 10-11 p/e and 2.5x's ev/sales. These are stupid cheap valuations for 40% organic sales growth lapping a 120% 2026 print.
Yet the most interesting part of call was none of the above.
It's the fact that they revealed a near CPU boot drive business that is $3 billion this year growing to $10 billion by 2030.
And they don't have a product here until 2H 2027.
They do have design wins and expect this market to be a large opportunity for them.
Typically, they get 20-30% or more in most of their end markets. Do the math.
Just spit balling, I would guess, in the last 3 years, bc of their focus on DC/enterprise controllers/specialty SSDs, their TAM has risen from maybe $5 billion to $25 billion.
It's not difficult to get to a $5 billion company in a few years, assuming th DC buildout flattens but does not collapse.
As always my sharing my research does not represent investment advice. Perform own DD as always.
Almost like your buddy Benny told you what was going to happen at the exact top.
Go Brewers
Twitter really is full of Johnny Come Lately folks.
I have been on here since the beginning but initially just used it as an RSS feed for news about my Green Bay Packers.
Then in 2020 I recognized its value for a P2P information network. I guess prior to that I assumed Bloomberg & my network on global “Wall Street” was sufficient even though I admittedly understood graph and ontology math way to well to make an assumption like that in hindsight.
But in periods of bubbles it’s so clear that all the non-thinking participants take over the network.
Basically it was all “This crypto exchange” “ETH proof of stake conversion” “Clean energy is the future” etc for two years until all those non-thinking promo participants got destroyed in 2022.
Then GPT2 garbage evolved into GPT4 & the mega hype machine came into play. This was a very seductive mistress bc a neural network linear autoregressive model can really tickle your balls and make you think it’s human intelligence. I know this as someone who built a trading strategy with a neural network over two decades ago & had my phD advisor tell me that wasn’t worth my time bc a) we don’t know how the processing unit actually works (remember IU->PU->OU) & more importantly 2) society would never put the capital needed to ale neural networks scalable.
Well here is the 2 decades later update:
1) we still don’t know how the PU works just like we don’t know how the brain works. The most obvious evidence of this without getting into deep complexity/physics is that if you ask one agent to do a task and another agent to do same task the token cost is wildly variable. But even more damning is that if you ask the same agent on the same platform to do the same task at a different day/time it’s not the same cost. It can’t be a big surprise that the enterprise is pausing as they can’t even define ROI while they blow cash on tokens like kids blow money on drugs at Burning Man.
2) the scalability that is being pushed on you is no way proven. The people pushing it has a huge asymmetric right tail outcome
If it works and if it doesn’t it doesn’t matter bc they can dump their stock on you just like SPCX early holders are about to do between now and Halloween.
Reality is that the math doesn’t math at the current moment in space time. Before you “come at me” just remember this is the historical norm. Solar , TVs, semiconductors, etc etc costs all had to run through the L’Hopital rule asymptotically converging towards zero as well.
BUT in the mean time dumb capital chases - capital that doesn’t really understand the quadratic of context Vs compute or even what attention window is for a transformer LLM architecture.
Today’s Twitter is all “check out my agent”, “check out my loop”, or “you can get rich using this repo in markets or real world”.
This site used to be where smart people came to talk and discuss things. Now it’s a media wing of SpaceX & the “All In” pod losers

“Nothing guarantees revenue.” Let that sink in.
Compute demand is booming. AI usage is booming. Neither guarantees revenue. We walk through why in the latest Benny & The Squirrel Ep. 98 “Assessing the AI Carnage”. Enjoy!

If you are looking to be cheered up after a rough day in the markets - Ep.97 of Benny & The Squirrel with @NickNemo17 probably isn’t going to have the Ted Lasso effect. But I promise you will learn a lot. Enjoy!
Delighted to have @NickNemo17 join us for a Halloween-style risks in insurance markets. Do not miss it! @BenBrey

If you were under the age of 41, you have only professionally lived through bull markets.
That’s not a criticism. It is just a fact. Whether we stay in one for a lot longer or not is less relevant. Make sure to read and study as much as you can as to what a bear market is like.
One thing dodgers fans can hang their hat on that despite 6:1 odds against them to come back based on empirical results that are situationally similar is that 75% of the 16 teams that overcame the 2-0 deficit were the road team as they are now.
As a Wisconsin native who lives in LA I am fully entertained by this series. Go #brewers!!

Day 6: Transcription Quality
This is a hard and rather technical area. Most transcription engines penalize words that matter less (okay vs ok) the same as words that matter more (envidea vs Nvidia).
But if you're building an intelligence layer for podcasts, "entities" matter the most. Soundcast combines 11 different methods to achieve outstanding quality.
Additionally: many engines like Whisper are cheap but don't separate out speakers. But the speaker matters a lot! Soundcast not only diarizes speakers ... it also identifies who they are, and can recognize their voice over time.
