Microsoft’s director of applied science called the training of large language models the “largest theft of labor in human history” and “an astonishing theft of unprecedented proportions,” the Washington Post reported, according to a document unsealed Thursday as part of a lawsuit filed by the New York Times against Microsoft and OpenAI. The unsealed legal brief quotes internal documents obtained via legal discovery.
Separately, Anthropic said yesterday in a blog post that its Claude chatbot “‘leads’ 26% of Anthropic’s AI R&D work,” and that “AI systems are increasingly being used to build the next version of themselves,” The Post reported.
