Vumthang Sitlhou had made it his life’s mission to bring the two communities—Kukis and Nagas—closer. His assassination began a hostage crisis, on a scale unprecedented in Manipur.
As news spread of the abduction of the Konsakhul residents, six Kukis were taken hostage at Ireng Naga, around thirty kilometres south-west of Leilon Vaiphei. Negotiations between the two communities began immediately—the abductors at Leilon Vaiphei said that they would release six Nagas in exchange for the six Kukis. This led to 25 more Kukis being taken hostage in the Senapati district. While Kachiaklungliu and the other women were released after two days, the rest would be gradually freed over the next few weeks. However, six Naga men, including Manu, never returned. Their bodies, mutilated beyond recognition, were found on 10 June.

Manipur : The Kuki Organisation for Human Rights Trust strongly condemns the continued obstruction of roads and the deliberate denial of essential commodities to Kuki communities residing in the districts of Kangpokpi, Ukhrul, and Kamjong.
KOHUR states that these blockades are being enforced by Manipur Naga organisations led by the United Naga Council (UNC). The persistence of these blockades, restricting the free movement of food, fuel, life-saving medicines & other necessities of daily survival, constitutes a grave and ongoing violation of fundamental human rights.

More than 32 members of the Kuki community attained martyrdom defending India's sovereignty and territorial integrity during the 1962 Indo-China War.

Despite the persistent and uninformed narrative pushed by certain vested interests individuals and organisations who brand the Kuki-Zo people as "refugees" or "outsiders" history tells a very different story.
The attached archival document, dated 17 September 1947, is the distribution list of the first Manipur Constitution Making Committee. Of its members, six were Kuki-Zo, forming a significant bloc among those who helped lay the constitutional foundation of Manipur itself:

3. Pu Thangkhopao Kipgen — B.A., C.O., Member

These were not refugees. These were sons of the soil educated leaders who sat at the very table where Manipur's constitutional future was written decades before today's manufactured controversies.

🆘️At approx 6AM, NSCN-IM & its proxy Kamson faction launched an unprovoked attack on L Munlui, leaving 3 civilians critically injured.
Medical reports from RIMS have confirmed that their injuries, consisting of bullet & bomb shrapnels were fired from Konsakhul Village.
■The NSCN-IM Terrorists bombarded the village & its residents with explosives since dawn. According to the L.Munlui Village Authority, There was no visible effort by the crpf to intercept, engage or repel the NSCN-IM Terrorists despite the fact that the attack was launched & the Terrorists retreated within the immediate perimeter of a @crpfindia bunker near Konsakhul.

I strongly condemn the pre-dawn attack on Kultuh Kuki village, Kamjong District, allegedly by armed NSCN-IM (EF) terrorists, which resulted in the killing of the village Church Deacon and Youth Leader, as well as the burning of multiple houses.
My deepest condolences to the bereaved families and the Kultuh Villagers during this hour of grief.
I urge the government to immediately deploy security forces to all vulnerable Kuki villages in Kamjong and Ukhrul Districts. I also call for adequate compensation and rehabilitation for the families of the deceased and for residents whose homes were burned down this morning.
Deeply saddened to learn that the bodies of 6 Naga individuals were recovered by security forces today.
I unequivocally condemn the killing of civilians. There can be no justification for such loss of life.
My thoughts are with the families and loved ones grieving today.
May the victims rest in peace. I call for a transparent investigation and due process of law.
