At the end of the day, Villanova never had the interests of the Big 5 in mind.
They demanded that a sixth team was added, so they could move away from the original round robin format, so they could jack up their NET ranking.
That didn’t make them happy, so now they just get to abandon ship.
Let me let you in on a little secret, Nova fans: playing Temple, La Salle, UPenn, and Saint Joe’s every year is not the reason they’ve only seen one tournament appearance since Jay Wright retired.
Reminder to the Nova fans Willard is a carpetbagger and is going to leave you high and dry the moment he gets a better offer.

We must return to The Palestra! No more corporate slop tournament at XfinMob. The Big5 has survived this exit before and will survive it again, as long as we return to tradition! I made this plea after the first Big5 classic & I make it again today! #ReturnToGlory #Palestra #Big5
The current format of Big 5 men's basketball will end after this year, and the immediate future has the 5 non-Villanova schools playing round-robin without the Wildcats.
Villanova didn't want to keep this format, and another could not be agreed on.

On the bright side the Big 5 is officially all Philly schools
News: Five institutions of the Philadelphia Big 5 - Drexel University, La Salle University, University of Pennsylvania, Saint Joseph's University, and Temple University - announce a round-robin scheduling format for men’s basketball beginning in 2027-28.
These institutions are united in their commitment to preserving the history and enhancing the future of the Philadelphia Big 5. The round-robin format represents a renewal of the competitive spirit that has defined the city’s college basketball landscape for more than 70 years, while also preserving the future of a partnership that is distinctively Philadelphia.
