Of all the people the DSA could have chosen to host its official election night livestream, it chose Hasan Piker, someone who proudly expresses support for terrorist organizations and traffics in antisemitism. Let that sink in. The DSA isn't distancing itself from this kind of rhetoric. It's elevating it. When someone tells you who they are, believe them: adl.org/resources/article/ha…

For all those who insist that opposition to Israel is completely separate and distinct from antisemitism, consider: The vandalism of yeshiva school buses in Williamsburg — which is rightly being widely condemned as antisemitic — does not mention the word “Jew” or “Jewish.” (It says “Free Palestine,” “F*** Israel,” and “America First.”) Jewish children in Brooklyn are not making military decisions for Israel, yet they are still being attacked because of them. That is why Jews feel unsafe in this country.

I think it's pretty simple. She despises Abdul, quite reasonably, and having a Jewish fiance makes her particularly intolerant of his camp's antisemitism. Her substantial personal and professional attachments to the Democrats held this off for a couple months, but the Cenk ad, Abdul's decision to finally spurn her a couple days ago, combined with Mike Rogers' generous phone call, finally pushed her over.
I now feel sorry for Rep. Haley Stevens. I’ve watched her in a number of interviews, and while I disagree with her, she’s always been able to substantively answer questions. She struggled to make a single coherent thought during her interview with Anderson. I hope she made this decision on her own and not under the influence of someone else. I pray for her, and I hope she’s okay. Politics aside, she’s a human being, and that comes with enough complexities on its own.

State Rep. Karen Whitsett (D-MI) blasts Abdul El-Sayed: “I am still a Democrat, but I am not a servant to a political machine or its socialist agenda. Haley does not belong to the Democratic Party. Neither did I. Our voices, votes and consciences are not property owned by political leadership. If unity exists only when everyone obeys, that is not unity. That is control.”

It’s fine to believe that being anti-Trump justifies supporting every Democrat imaginable, but just don’t pretend it’s a principled stand to demand higher standards for Republicans while applying zero standards for Dems. Abdul El-Sayed was the easiest litmus test imaginable for anyone who claims to have actual standards that aren’t just based on partisan hackery. He’s a radical extremist. He surrounds himself with the most hateful and extreme people imaginable. That’s also his support base. These are people he chooses to promote and associate with because he agrees with them. His own past positions and statements back that up. Again, you can justify it however you want. Say that having a Dem in that seat is more important than opposing such radicalism on the left. But stop gaslighting people by pretending there are any principles that apply here other than being anti-Republican.

Haley Stevens, who voted with Joe Biden 97.5% of the time and with Trump only 6% of the time was excommunicated from the Democrat Party today because she wouldn’t go through the humiliation ritual of donning the hijab like Peggy Flanagan and Kathy Hochul, nor would she endorse a guy with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood whose friends think America deserved 9/11 and who can’t bring himself to denounce the IRGC. Graham Platner who is a rapist with an infatuation for Nazism and sending nudes to underage girls on Kik while jerking off in a port-a-potty was not kicked out of the party. If you’re a registered Democrat holding out hope that there’s going to be some great revival and return to the party of JFK, stop wasting your time. Your party is captive by terrorists, low IQ foreigners, illegal aliens, and people who hate this country and everything it stands for. It’s gone. It’s not coming back. Just leave it.

Haley Stevens was going to do a Democratic unity rally with Abdul El-Sayed and James Clyburn where she was going to encourage her supporters, many of whom have serious reservations about El-Sayed, to vote for him. This was very important for El-Sayed, because Stevens is popular among Jewish and black Michigan Democrats and Clyburn is an icon among black voters nationwide. El-Sayed has weakness with both of these groups and needs to shore them up going into election day. Stevens's condition was that he make an unambiguous, unqualified condemnation of the antisemitic rhetoric his friends, supporters and surrogates have been using, including in ads run in Michigan. El-Sayed refused to do this, and instead asked Stevens not to appear at the event. At that point, Stevens realized that he was not interested in unity with her or her supporters and that she could no longer support him for Senate. El-Sayed is an antisemite. He is friends with antisemites Hasan Piker and Cenk Uygur. He will not condemn them. He will not condemn the awful things they say. He has had multiple opportunities to condemn their hateful rhetoric, and he always says: "He is not part of a campaign, nobody speaks for me but me, and I'm not here to talk about that." That's not good enough. If that is how a Republican talked about Nick Fuentes or Richard Spencer, it would be the biggest controversy in the race. The fact that so many Democrats are willing to tolerate this from Abdul El-Sayed is an indictment of the entire party. There is no coalition that can include both the Jewish Democratic members of Temple Israel and supporters of the Hezbollah terrorist who tried to murder their preschool children. Abdul El-Sayed made a decision about who he wanted in his tent. Haley Stevens was late to realize it, but it is admirable that she finally decided to be an upstander instead of a bystander. No Nazis in the US Senate.
Genuinely struggling even to construct a theory of mind for this beyond "Abdul told me not to come to his campaign event so fuck him." None of the Hasan Piker stuff is even remotely new!

The official position of the Michigan Democratic Party is that the party tent is big enough for: 1) Literal Communists 2) Supporters of Islamist terrorism but not big enough for: 1) People who oppose antisemitism Realize where we are.

I just watched this rant again, he’s attacking Pete Hegseth for having supportive parents who cheered for him at his sporting events. I mean this is just a wild take. Isn’t that what we want all parents to do for their kids? I’m sorry Abdul’s parents sucked. But attacking great parents is just weird.
Abdul El Sayed bizarrely attacks Pete Hegseth for sucking at sports in high school and rips his mom for cheering for him. (Pete played college basketball at Princeton and was an all state basketball player). This is just strange. Abdul is a weird dude.

If you listen carefully it’s a misplaced anger at his own parents for not making him feel worthy that turned into raging jealousy of other children who had parents that lifted them up and poured into them. He’s projected all of that onto white people. He needs to mend his heart before thinking about running for any office. White ppl haven’t hurt him. He knows exactly who did. Notice how he doesn’t get the satisfaction he was craving when the interviewer simply anchors himself & doesn’t validate that experience. We should all do more of this. Don’t validate anyone’s experience for the sake of temporary bonding.

Yes, we already know he's going to blame the Jews.
Ironically if El-Sayed loses it will now be much harder to blame his progressivism since people can just blame Haley Stevens instead. I'm not saying that's right, I'm not saying that's wrong, but that's how the intraparty D debate is likely to go.
