I am no market expert. Plenty of people know more than me. But one thing is clear, India’s stock market isn’t falling just because of LTCG tax. It’s falling because investors are losing confidence in the government. Foreign investors need stable laws and predictable policies. In India, the government keeps changing market rules whenever it wants. No transparency. No proper consultation. No long-term vision. Worse, favouritism towards crony capitalists kills competition and discourages innovation. Foreign investors aren’t blind bhakts. They don’t buy the “Viksit Bharat by 2047” narrative without looking at the ground reality. They know how to read the numbers, policies and risks. Even if LTCG tax is reduced or removed for FII, don’t expect foreign investors to rush back. The trust deficit won’t disappear overnight. And do you really expect the government to give Indian investors major tax relief ? It has massive Ladli-behna schemes to fund and have to give crony fraand Adani money on the name of development projects. That money has to come from somewhere. So don’t expect a complete removal of LTCG tax on Indian taxpayers anytime soon. Maybe the exemption limit goes up from ₹1.25 lakh to ₹2 lakh. But a blanket removal is highly unlikely. The real problem isn’t just taxation. It’s policy uncertainty, declining investor confidence and a lack of trust.
