The vaccine was developed and authorized under a Republican Administration, and it’s been distributed and administered under a Democratic one. The vaccines are safe, they are highly effective, and there’s nothing political about them.

A new bill would bar The Hartford Courant’s ownership from incurring debt or issuing dividends that are “not in the public interest,” provisions aimed at blocking vehicles used by equity funds to wring cash out of newspapers, rather than invest in them. ctmirror.org/2021/03/18/can-…

"When Alden comes in, it’s slash-and-burn time. Newsroom jobs are cut to the bone." Unless, that is, civic-minded local ownership can be found. Now would be a good time for a Chicagoan of means -- and with a high sense of drama -- to step up. washingtonpost.com/lifestyle…

Today was our last day to clear out our newsroom before it closes permanently. To say goodbye, and show @tribpub just how we feel, we made some noise on the way out.

Today is a sad day in The Hartford Courant’s history. We were just told @tribpub will close our Broad Street office, with no plan to find us a new one. We are indefinitely without an office.

Huge scoop that @tribpub *almost* missed thanks to its short sighted furlough penny pinching. National media chased this story. Congrats in repose, David. We assume you're at a kid's baseball game somewhere.
Homeland Security making plans to deploy some 150 agents in Chicago. @davidheinzmann is furloughed this week. The public wouldn't know about this plan if he hadn't secured the documents hours before the company benched him. #supportlocaljournalism chicagotribune.com/news/crim…

Welcome to the fight! Congratulations.
Today, the journalists of @TribuneAgency are announcing our plans to form a union and are asking @TribPub to voluntarily recognize us. @NewsGuild @CWAUnion

If you believe in supporting this kind of journalism, stand with us. Tell @TribPub leadership to invest in its newsrooms. Here’s how you can support our efforts: chicagotribuneguild.com/supp…

It’s been a difficult week with many of our journalists on furlough because of @TribPub. It’s never been more obvious that investment in our newsrooms is the only way forward. Our communities need vital reporting. Here are some recent examples:

Update: Our members have ratified the agreement. Thanks to all our members for sticking together at a time when many people are hurting. We look forward to better days, and we will fight alongside you to get there.
Update: We've reached a tentative agreement with @tribpub on a deal that fends off permanent pay reductions and assures us that the company will not try further cuts until at least the end of July.

This is the memorial to Sir Isaac Newton in the Abbey. In 1665, Newton was evacuated from Cambridge as a precaution against the plague. While continuing his studies at home, he developed his theories on optics and the law of gravitation #MuseumWeek #CultureInQuaratineMW

After a MONTH of TribPub trying to push permanent pay cuts on us, after their bullying and dirty tricks, after they tried to hang half of sports and features out to dry, they came to us today with an all-furlough proposal. Next up, better job protections.

It looks like TribPub has suspended its dividend. investor.tribpub.com/node/10… It's good to know that whatever money they try to take from us won't go directly into shareholders' pockets. Maybe it's too much to hope that they'll learn to invest in their newsrooms instead.

I am so proud of our @ctguild bargaining committee for standing strong in the face of the TribPub pressure tactics. We didn't flinch, and in the end they came off their absurd proposal to furlough half of sports and features for three months.

TribPub is trying to play a dirty game here. And it’s our livelihoods at stake. How low will they stoop to try to get us to volunteer a pay cut so shareholders can get a windfall? mailchi.mp/f2908e9329dc/pay-…

We are ready to make a fair deal if @tribpub is. But please note that it's not yet clear that the company's representatives know that this is an organization whose business is making journalism.
