What a heartbreaking week it has been. Sir Patrick Stewart was a friend, a colleague, and a magnificent actor. From the stage to the bridge of the Enterprise, he brought intelligence, grace, and a deep sense of humanity to everything he did. Captain Picard stood for the best of us, and so did the man who played him. I was filled with affection and admirationΒ for him and his work.
My heart goes out to Sunny and his family. He will be deeply missed.

Claudius, Macbeth, Malvolio, Prospero β he was simply magnificent in them all. Oh, Patrick, you magnificent man, rest now in eternity with the Bard.

An unfinished breakfast 116 years ago. I have cleaned-up this startlingly immediate Autochrome still life by Wladimir Schohin, an amateur photographer who is recognised as one of Finland's most accomplished autochrome photographers. This boiled egg was photographed in 1910 using an early colour glass-plate process and isn't colourised.

The Bayeux Tapestry, a 70 meter long medieval masterpiece created by artisan women, is actually an embroidery in crewel (wool yarn) on a linen ground. Depicting the Norman conquest of England, it was made in the 11th century & is now being displayed at the British Museum #WomensArt #BayeuxTapestry

Henry Purcell was born on this day in 1659 Here he is in the National Portrait Gallery alongside Handel.
They never met because Purcell died aged only 36 in 1695, when Handel was only 10 years old. However, Handel deeply respected Purcell's music
