🏠 Decarbonising #buildings also means decarbonising heat.
Bioenergy already supplies 81% of EU renewable heat, with modern biomass heating and district heating offering alternatives to fossil fuels, especially where electrification is harder. 👉 f.mtr.cool/557hca0cwe

Transition of #biogas feedstocks, from energy crops to urban and industrial waste. Valorisation of residue streams in a circular economy.
🌱Since 2017, new plants are primarily running on organic municipal solid #waste, sewage sludge and industrial waste. This trend reflects a broader change in the geography of #biomethane production, with countries like France, Italy, the Netherlands and Denmark taking the lead.

Greening the economy saves expensive (unreliable) fossil imports, helps to improve air quality and provides valuable organic fertilizers (replacing chemical fertilizers). Biogas does all of this. Win - win - win. India understands this very well.
The Indian Biogas Association welcomes and appreciates the Government of India’s approval of the ₹23,731 crore GOBARdhan Scheme—a significant step towards strengthening India’s CBG ecosystem.
Key highlights:
✅ CBG Offtake Assurance Mechanism — mandating 3% CBG obligation in FY 2026-27, rising to 5% from FY 2028-29
✅ Administered CBG Price of ₹2,110/MMBtu, guaranteed for a minimum of 10 years
✅ Capital Assistance of up to ₹2 crore per TPD for greenfield CBG plants
✅ ₹5,133 crore for pipeline infrastructure development
✅ Credit Guarantee Support covering up to 85% of outstanding amounts for MSME projects
✅ ₹500 crore CBG Ecosystem Challenge Fund for sector-wide development
IBA extends its sincere thanks to the Government of India for creating a stronger policy framework to support the growth of biogas and CBG in the country.

Organic wastes, such as #wastewater sludge, animal manure, and food waste present both a management challenge and an opportunity to recover energy and valuable materials.
IEA Bioenergy Task 36 (Material and Energy Valorisation of Waste in a Circular Economy) therefore compiled a report of use cases showing different technological pathways for #OrganicWasteValorisation for local solutions.
Key findings:
- Successful projects typically combine reliable feedstock, local product demand, and simple site integration, with co-location helping reduce logistics costs and risks.
- Common approaches include coordinated operators, phased commissioning, strong product-quality focus, and compact footprints.
- Policy support can strengthen project viability, including biomethane incentives in Denmark and the UK.
- Financing models vary from private equity and multilateral loans to public concessions and private service contracts.
