What happens when a Bitcoiner sells everything and moves to El Salvador with no plan B?
I sat down with Jon Byrne and asked him. He'd never even visited El Salvador before he bought the one way ticket.
He said there was nothing to lose... Stay behind in the fiat world and you've already lost!
In El Salvador, almost "everyone" already has a Bitcoin wallet. Jon says the hard part now is giving people a way to earn Bitcoin, so he built one. Get hired for any job, get paid directly, no bankster approval-to-use-your-money needed and no ID required!

Only early cypherpunks who mined on laptops a decade ago can truly afford to live in a Bitcoin-only world—their CAGR outpaces anything they could spend. Aside from them, only those who earn in BTC can realistically spend it (and that's still very few).
For everyone else, it's basic math: your CAGR has to exceed your burn rate minus financing costs.
Most wallets hold very little BTC (chart below). These users aren't spending because they're trying to stack, and none of their income arrives in Bitcoin.
As for the "Bitcoin Tourists" @JoeNakamoto mentions: it's not a bad thing, but merchant tourism isn't enough to drive sustainable adoption. It takes huge effort to sustain and is already tapering off.
The real unlock is credit-backed supply chains, as @padilla_cuenca points out. But you can't expect a business to jump in 100% on day one and risk payroll cash flow. They need a bridge—starting with split USD/BTC payments and building treasury reserves gradually.
That's why targeting regions like @BtxcBolivia makes sense: real demand for stable dollars, paired with an acute understanding of Bitcoin as an inflation hedge.
