A 60-year-old One Nation volunteer in Torquay has been hospitalised with serious head injuries, facial fractures and internal bleeding after a baseball bat attack by a father and son (following vandalism of political signs).
This follows other reported incidents involving One Nation volunteers, including an elderly staffer allegedly punched and spat on at a Brisbane Ekka stall (resulting in a broken rib) and earlier spitting incidents.
Separately, MP Helen Haines was critically injured in a targeted car attack in Wangaratta a few weeks ago and has had both legs amputated, another attack by the left.
These attacks are unacceptable. The PM has called for turning the temperature down on political discourse, but rising threats and violence against politicians and volunteers need to be addressed.

The Big Build royal commission has been told that financial estimates were doctored and a senior public servant threatened with the sack to force the Melbourne Airport Rail Link through Sunshine instead of a more direct route to the city.
How much more is this Labor government still hiding? Meanwhile Dan Andrews and Jacinta Allan walk away with handsome lifelong pensions.
Remember: Albanese praised Jacinta Allan’s “achievements” while she oversaw it all.

AGE PENSIONERS FORGO AT LEAST 65 CENTS IN THE DOLLAR OVER $6,000 IF THEY KEEP WORKING.
Good article below highlighting how dysfunctional our taxation system is for working pensioners.
The full pension is around $30,000 a year and is taxable. That is clearly not enough to live on.
Aged pensioners can earn up to around $6,000 before losing the pension at 50 cents in the dollar earned over that.
That means a working pensioner is taxed at least 65 cents or 80 cents once over $45,000 in the dollar.
This is extremely punitive and stops older people from working.
Encouraging pensioners to keep working will:
1) increase workforce productivity
2) reduce the cost of the pension as more people work longer
3) reduce the need for immigration
4) help relieve the job shortages especially in childcare, retail and aged care
5) enable skills especially trades to be passed onto younger generations
People First has a range of policies to help working pensioners. We will:
1) lift the tax free threshold to $45,000
2) lift the income threshold for the pension to $15,000
3) Allow pensioners to earn up to another $25,000 tax free as either passive or active income.
Superannuation isn’t the only way to reduce the reliance on the pension. Helping Australians who want to keep working for longer is actually a far better way to help our economy.
