PART 2: THE LETTER CONTAINED SOMETHING NOBODY EXPECTED.
The envelope contained a handwritten letter addressed to his daughter.
Her uncle called her downstairs and handed it to her.
She immediately recognised her father’s handwriting.
With trembling hands, she began reading.
The letter said:
“My daughter, if you are reading this, it means I am no longer here.
I know you may be angry with me for leaving you so soon.
But there is something I never had the courage to tell you.
For years, I have been fighting a battle that I didn’t want you to know about. I made mistakes, trusted the wrong people and lost almost everything trying to protect this family.
Two nights before my death, I noticed something unusual about my health. I knew I needed medical attention, but I was afraid of what the doctors might discover.
I wanted to tell you, but every time I looked at your face, I remembered that you were still young and needed a father.”
By this point, the girl was crying uncontrollably.
But there was one final paragraph.
It read:
“Whatever happens, don’t allow my death to turn you against the people who genuinely love you. And please, don’t spend your life trying to understand why I left. Spend it becoming someone you will be proud of.”
Her uncle looked at her and asked:
“Why did your father write this? What happened during his final days?”
She wiped her tears and finally revealed something the family didn’t know.
Two nights before he died, she had found him struggling to breathe.
He begged her not to wake anyone because he didn’t want to frighten the family.
She wanted to call for help, but he insisted he would be fine.
The next morning, he promised they would visit the hospital together.
But he never got the chance.
And then she revealed the one thing that made the entire family break down.

The woman who cleaned our office cried when she received her salary.
Not because it was too small.
But because, for the first time in eleven years, somebody had finally noticed that she had been working every Sunday without being paid for it.
What happened afterwards nearly cost her the job she had struggled to keep for more than a decade.
Her name was Margaret.
She was in her late forties and had worked as a cleaner in our organisation for eleven years. Most people barely noticed her unless the office was dirty or the waste bins hadn't been emptied.
She arrived before most employees, cleaned the offices, washed the toilets, arranged the meeting rooms and usually left after everyone else.
She was never loud.
If you greeted her, she smiled. If you asked her for help, she did what she could. And if you forgot to thank her, she never complained.
She was raising two children on a salary that was barely enough to cover rent, food and school expenses.
One of her children had recently gained admission into college, and she had been trying to save towards the fees.
I knew some of this because we occasionally spoke during lunch breaks.
One Monday morning, our finance department sent an email asking all employees to confirm their attendance records for the previous three months.
It was a routine exercise.
Everyone was asked to check their attendance and report any discrepancies.
I submitted mine and forgot about it.
A few days later, I noticed Margaret standing outside the payroll office.
She was holding a folded sheet of paper.
She looked worried.
I asked if everything was alright.
She said her salary had been reduced, and nobody had explained why.
I advised her to speak to payroll.
She replied that she had already gone there twice.
According to the payroll officer, the attendance records showed that she had missed several Sundays and two public holidays.
Margaret insisted she had worked those days.
She even remembered the dates because one Sunday she had stayed until almost 8 p.m. cleaning after a company event.
I asked whether she had signed an attendance register.
She said there was no register for weekend cleaning staff. The security officers usually recorded their arrival and departure.
I told her to ask for those records.
She shook her head.
"That is what they said they cannot find."
I thought it was just another administrative problem.
Until Friday afternoon.
I was leaving the building when I saw Margaret sitting alone on the staircase.
She was crying quietly.
I asked what had happened.
She wiped her face and said:
"They told me if I continue questioning the salary, they may not renew my contract."
I stood there for a moment.
Eleven years.
Eleven years of arriving early, cleaning after people, working through holidays and making sure the building was ready every morning.
And now she was being threatened with losing her job because she wanted an explanation for money she believed she had earned.
I asked her one question:
"Do you have any proof that you worked those days?"
She looked at me and said:
"I have been keeping something in my bag for three years. I never thought I would need it."
Then she opened her handbag.
What she brought out changed the way I looked at the entire situation.

Erigga, how many times did I call you? Some of us haven't eaten this morning.
How many people at 40 can gladly come out and tell us they're billionaires, except those who inherited family wealth?

Reason why most companies don't want you to discuss your pay with coworkers…😭
Officer: “License and registration, please. Do you know why I pulled you over?”
Driver: “No, officer. I was driving behind that truck. I haven’t exceeded the speed limit.”
Officer: “You crossed the solid white line back there. That’s a traffic violation.”
Passenger: “Officer, we didn’t cross anything. The truck suddenly stopped, and he moved slightly to avoid hitting it.”
Officer: “I wasn’t speaking to you. Let the driver answer.”
Driver: “I’m happy to cooperate, but I have a dashcam. It recorded everything.”
Officer: “A dashcam doesn’t change traffic laws. I observed what happened.”
Passenger: “Then why don’t you check the footage before writing a ticket?”
Officer: “Ma’am, I know how to do my job.”
Driver: “We’re not questioning your authority. We’re asking you to verify what happened.”…
