A privilege to meet @SoundsIrish at the #GlobalBirdFair in UK and to witness the screening of #Birdsong, a powerful, moving (and funny!) film about @ronayne88 ‘s personal journey to record all the birds of Ireland and his reflections on the state of nature. Highly recommended!

This represents an industrial scale, opportunistic plundering of a glorious and precious species that is on the brink of a comeback from near oblivion. Oceanic animals know no barriers, something we as global citizens must surely try to understand if there’s to be any hope @mcsuk

This is *incredible*!
A North American Wood Warbler calling around my mics (SW Ireland) @ dawn on the 21st Sep after a strong system crossed the Atlantic.
I still don't know which species it is as many have a similar 'chip' call. I suspect it is Yellow/Tennessee. More to come!

The @ScottishBirding Annual Conference will be at the Atholl Palace Hotel in Pitlochry on the weekend 24-26 Nov 2023. The programme and details should be out shortly. It's looking good! Top-notch speakers lined up and great social event.

Listen to Tacumshin Lake SPA & SAC brimming with life on a cold winter's morn' - surf pounding the sandy shoreline behind the dunes which border this wonderful refuge for nature (although amazingly hunters can shoot this place up and cause havoc at will!)

Increadible strong "leading line" #bird migration on the Vlieland bird radar (NW Netherlands). Note also the low altitude migration (<200m). Migration using easterly winds. Another bird radar shows migration continues along the NE-SW oriented coastline and not heading for UK.

Phenomenal. Bar-tailed Godwit has broken its own record: a first-year bird (five months old!) has flown 13,560 km—just shy of the direct flight limit of a Boeing 787—from Alaska to Tasmania, seemingly non-stop, in just 11 days (avg. speed: c.51 km/hr).

With thanks to the unfiltered weather radar images from #smhi the massive departure of birds in Scandinavia is visible tonight. What will bring tomorrow @ the countries around the Northsea?

🗺️ We mapped 16 anthropogenic threats to migratory birds across the Afro-Palaearctic.
🕊️ We used these to create composite species-specific threat scores for >100 bird sp and related these to the PECBMS population trends. 1/2
ALT Orthographic projection globe centred on Afro-Eurasia showing a composite threat map of relative levels of direct mortality threat intensity across the region. Darker regions indicate lower levels of direct mortality threats, lighter regions indicate higher levels of direct mortality threats.
