In the early 1900s, the richest woman in America wore the same black dress until it turned green.
She ate cold oatmeal so she wouldn’t pay to heat it.
Her name was Hetty Green. Wall Street called her “the Witch of Wall Street.”
Her playbook: keep piles of cash, buy when everyone else panics. During the Panic of 1907, she is said to have lent money to New York City itself.
Tag someone who still reuses tea bags.
Tomorrow, the US votes in its midterm elections. A widely cited Wall Street stat: the S&P 500 has been higher 12 months after every midterm election since WWII.

Today is the one day of the year Wall Street's oldest superstition says to buy. 👀
"Sell in May and go away, buy back on Halloween day."
Economists tested it across 37 markets. Annoyingly, it mostly held up: November–April has beaten May–October for decades.
Not advice. Just lore.

In 2008, Barclays was rushing to buy parts of Lehman Brothers after its collapse.
The deal involved an Excel spreadsheet with nearly 1,000 rows of contracts, including 179 that weren't supposed to be part of the purchase.
But instead of removing them, most of those contracts had simply been hidden in Excel.
During a last-minute reformatting, the hidden rows reappeared and made their way into the PDF submitted to the bankruptcy court.
The court approved the deal, and Barclays later had to fight to exclude 179 contracts it never intended to acquire.
Tag someone you wouldn't trust with a billion-dollar Excel sheet.

In 1999, a five-year-old chimpanzee named Raven decided to take on Wall Street.
Armed with ten darts and a board of 133 internet stocks, Raven randomly picked companies to build a stock portfolio.
By the end of the year, her picks had returned an astonishing 213%, outperforming over 6,000 professional money managers.
Her portfolio even had its own index called the MonkeyDex.
No financial degree. No technical analysis. Just a chimp throwing darts and beating Wall Street.
Tag someone who spends 6 hours analyzing charts just to get outperformed by a chimp. 💀

In 1955, two Chicago traders bought 30 million pounds of onions to completely corner the market.
They ended up crashing the price so heavily that the empty bags were literally worth more than the onions inside.
Furious farmers complained to the government, leading Congress to pass a highly specific law.
To this day, onions are one of the few agricultural products legally banned from futures trading in the US.
$TSLA bears spent 10 years saying the valuation had no ground support.
Elon took that personally and built the Roadster.
