What would happen if cigarette butts were dropped in the Baltic Sea? Where would they go? Found out by following our third case study: nitter.cf/APP4SEA_NPA/status/148… #plasticinthesea #marinepollution #marineplastics
1/3 It is Friday and time to check our 3rd #PlasticInTheSea campaign incident. On 30.12.21 a nervous #karaoke🧑🎤 on board a 🚢 from #Stockholm🇸🇪 to #Turku 🇫🇮wanted to calm his/her nerves by having a🚬 and accidentally knocked over into the sea 50 cigarette butts from an ashtray.

10 years buried in Balnakeil bay, 3 years to remove it, 2 years into our passive washing machine. Ready to be shredded.
That's what it takes to remove ghost gear and mega-plastics from our shoreline and recycling it without making more damage with the solution than the problem.

Another day, another 95kg of plastic removed from Balnakeil bay. There is still a lot to pick up but the constant face scrub from gale force winds and the incoming tide kicked us out.

Another salmon farm feeder pipe to deal with. About 15.5m long and full of sand so very hard to handle.
We collected 88.5 kg of plastic in the last 3 days (22.5kg estimated for the pipe). The beach still looks awful, thousands of fishing rope and net debris cover the strand line.
