The Times is reporting that a number of high profile comedians ( Manford, Norne, Lycett) are signatories to a letter to Burnham saying with the collapse of 3 institutions in a week comedy is in crisis and needs taxpayers money to survive. They don’t need our money they should try telling gags that people think are funny enough to pay for. Comedians are in retail not high art. If you want a laugh today go on TikTok or Insta not a comedy club. Sick and tired of performers doing entire routines reflecting on their being gay. It’s tedious and there’s not a career in it. The three institutions that have failed are the Leicester Comedy Club ( bet that’s was a barrel of laughs) which went bust owing £200K, Underbelly Boulevard Soho, a theatre and bar, and Live at the Apollo cancelled by the BBC. The idea comedians have got their hands out to the taxpayer to fund careers their talent can’t support is for the birds.
