It's South Carolina Week.
The OU/SC history is not very long, so may have to get creative. I've burned all the film from 2024, so no, I won't use the one TD from that game.

If you haven’t gotten enough OU/Texas content, here is my experience at and around the game Saturday.
OU 27. Texas 24.
Come with me through the State Fair, into the Cotton Bowl and all the way to a Red River Redemption.
I said I’d share the footage win or lose.
Here’s the win.

Before I head to Dallas, I owe Sooner Nation full disclosure.
My first OU/Texas game was in 1990. OU lost 14–13.
I went back in 1991. Loss.
1992. Loss.
1993. Finally, a win.
I missed the next three, then returned in 1997. Loss.
1998. Loss.
1999. Loss.
That 1999 game broke me. OU went up 17–0 and somehow lost 38–28. I walked out of the Cotton Bowl and vowed never to attend again.
In 2000, I stayed home. OU won 63–14.
So obviously, I couldn’t go in 2001. OU won. Same in 2002, 2003 and 2004. Five straight wins with me safely in Oklahoma.
Then OU lost without me in 2005. Finally, proof that I wasn’t the problem. The curse was broken. I returned in 2006.
OU lost.
I stayed home in 2007. OU won.
I went back in 2008. OU lost.
My dad once told me it was bad luck to be superstitious, so I decided to just go whenever it was possible.
So here are the cold, hard facts since then:
2011: W
2012: W
2013: L
2014: W
2015: L
2018: L
2019: W
2022: L
2023: W
2024: L
2025: L
The games I missed during that stretch:
2009: L
2010: W
2016: W
2017: W
2018 Big XII Championship: W
2020: W
2021: W
Here’s the final accounting since 1990, including the 2018 championship:
OU with me in the stadium: 6–14
OU without me: 13–3–1
OU has lost to Texas 17 times during that span. I have personally attended 14 of them.
I don’t believe in curses. But if OU fans want me to stay home Saturday, I understand.
And if Texas fans want to make sure I get through the gates, sponsorship opportunities remain available.
Either way, I’m on the road.
Win or lose, I’ll post the footage.
Boomer Sooner. May God have mercy on us all.
I wrote this.
I know this is kind of a long story, but if you love OU and Coach Switzer, it would mean a lot if you read it.
#BoomerSooner #BeatTexas @OU_Football
In December 1985, my dad wrote Barry Switzer about Oklahoma’s upcoming national championship game against Penn State. Weeks later, after OU won the title, Barry quoted my dad’s statistics in the Orange Bowl locker room.
That letter began a friendship that has now lasted 40 years.
I was 13 when Dad came excitedly into my room one evening.
“You have to come look at this!”
On the living room coffee table were two or three OU media guides and notebook paper covered in his handwriting.
This was years before Wikipedia and Sports Reference. Dad was doing the research by hand.
He wanted to compare Barry Switzer’s record through his first 153 games with Bud Wilkinson’s record through the same number. What he discovered excited him so much that he knew Coach Switzer had to hear about it.
Today, he could post the statistics on X and tag @BarrySwitzer and @OU_Football
In 1985, you wrote a letter.
So Dad took his research to the office, typed it up and mailed it to the University of Oklahoma, care of Coach Barry Switzer.
The original letter is included here for you to read. Dad, always the creative force, presented it in a way only he could: a two-page, 614-word letter filled with statistics, historical parallels and even a Sooner-themed poem.
He REALLY wanted Barry’s attention.
He mailed it 21 days before the Orange Bowl, when Oklahoma would play for its sixth national championship.
Then we waited.
Three weeks passed. We had no idea whether Coach Switzer, or anyone at OU, had seen it.
Oklahoma beat Penn State, 25-10, and won the national championship.
The next day, we were watching the Oklahoma Playback show when it cut to the celebration inside the Orange Bowl locker room.
Coach Switzer quieted the room and began reciting Bud Wilkinson’s record through 154 games, comparing it with his own.
We couldn’t believe it.
“WE DID IT!”
The letter had reached the King himself.
That was victory enough for Dad. We celebrated again, as if Oklahoma had just won a second national championship.
Three months later, Dad came barreling into my room again. Think of the father in “A Christmas Story” learning he had won a major award. That is the only comparison I can make.
Barry had written back.
Dad read the letter aloud, beaming. He now had Barry’s autograph, which, for you kids, used to mean more than a selfie. The envelope also contained letters from Barry’s uncle Billy and OU Sports Information Director Mike Treps.
Dad was 34 years old, and he was overjoyed.
But the story wasn’t finished.
Seven months later, through his business, Dad attended an event and was seated at Barry Switzer’s table. That was their first meeting.
That night, I received a telephone call.
It wasn’t from my dad.
It was Barry Switzer.
The date was October 5, 1986, Barry’s 49th birthday and one day after my 14th. Barry told me it was his birthday, then wished me a happy birthday.
A few years later, Dad moved to Norman. His business led to a partnership with Heisman Trophy winner Steve Owens, and that first letter grew into a friendship with Barry that continues today.
But my dad is not the same man he was then.
In 2020, he was diagnosed with Primary Progressive Aphasia, an aggressive form of dementia that attacks language and speech.
Today, my 75-year-old dad is completely nonverbal. He is battling several other serious health problems, bravely fighting for his life and still cheering for his Sooners.
He has attended every OU-Texas game since 1990.
This week, he’ll have to watch from his bed in Norman.
I’ll be there, Dad.
And I’ll do my best to bring you home one more Red River victory.
Happy birthday, Coach Switzer.
Thank you for reading a letter from my dad 40 years ago.
If the question is, what game have you watched more than any other? This would be the answer.

Same person as he’s always been. My son who lived in locker rooms with Payton since middle school calls him the best human he knows. That tells me everything I need to know.

This is the longest any OU fan has had to wait for a National Championship since they began winning them.
On the left is me with my brother and dad before the 2000 National Championship Game.
On the right, is me with my brother and dad and my son who was born in 2000, last year before the Michigan game.
Its been too long since OU won a National Championship.

Hearing Arbuckle say they are searching for an identity, is frustrating, but in reality, it calls out the head coach and rightfully so. The truth is, Arbuckle ran a gimmicky offense at Washington State, and had really good success doing it. He was known for ingenuity and productivity. It was Air Raid with tempo, like it or not, that IS an identity. It was an awkward and surprising hire for that reason. BV doesn't want up tempo air raid, so he's making Arbuckle alter what got him here. BV has broken him, just as he did Seth Littrell. We keep questioning the competency of the OC. Why call this play? Why not call this play? What are you doing??!! This has BV's hands all over it. When you keep hiring successful offensive minds, who fail under your leadership, maybe the problem isn't them, its you.

Touchdown of the Day: New Mexico Week
OU is 2-0 all time vs New Mexico, with wins in 1930 and 1935. Unfortunately, not a lot of game footage floating around online from that time. Instead, this week we'll focus on OU's touchdowns vs teams also currently in the Mountain West.
Today: Elvis Peacock vs Wyoming in the 1976 Fiesta Bowl. OU would go on to win 41-7.

Question for Michigan fans?
Any restaurants let people named Bo eat free?
Just thought I’d ask.
