Recent news may have postponed the return of true Trek for a decade, but lifelong fans still have decades of stories and the Great Bird's optimistic vision to live for. #RIPStarTrek is temporary as hopeful ideas never die. youtu.be/x3pOkhU9iYM

My favorite performance of Patrick Stewart was in the TNG episode "Tapestry". There are some days I look back to this episode for a reminder of overcoming difficulties and harsh truths. I used to beat myself up over bad choices I had made and bad people I associated with. Led me into to conflicts, ruination, and at worst: homelessness. But those were the things that made me into who I was. A lot of people just give up. They might lose their mind or spirit along the way. But you can't ever give those up -they're all you really have. That almost sounds like it could be a cope, but in many cases, that's just how it goes. You have to live to know.

Space feels a little emptier tonight. For so many of us, Sir Patrick Stewart was the captain we grew up trusting. When Jean-Luc Picard stood up to speak, you listened. He could face down a warship, defend a stranger’s humanity or quietly admit he was wrong—and make every moment believable. He gave Star Trek its conscience as much as its commanding voice. Through Picard, he showed us that intelligence, compassion and courage belonged together in the captain’s chair. And there was something rather special about a Yorkshire lad taking the bridge of the Enterprise and making the universe listen. Thank you for the adventures, Sir Patrick. For the dignity, the warmth, and the belief that humanity might yet become something better. The bridge is yours, Number One. Our captain has earned his rest. Goodnight, Sir Patrick. And thank you. 🖖

There are so many great scenes I could point out where Sir Patrick Stewart was playing extraordinarily, but one of my most favorite scenes is him narrating Earth’s oldest known literature, the Gilgamesh Epos, in the TNG episode “Darmok”, while the alien captain played by late Paul Winfield passed away. Shaka, when the walls fell! Rest in Power, Captain.

“With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably.” Captain Picard’s great defence of freedom of speech. Rest in peace @SirPatStew

“I rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey and reminds us to cherish every moment because they'll never come again. What we leave behind is not as important as how we've lived.” - Captain Jean-Luc Picard, USS Enterprise NCC1701-D

I am an Original Series guy, but I enjoyed The Next Generation and was brought into that show mainly through Patrick Stewart’s excellent performances like this one. Hard to have another Trek loss like this. R.I.P. Sir Patrick.

For my fellow Trek, Babylon 5 and X-Men fans out there. Always remember Walter's and Patrick's gifts to us. The joy they brought, the lessons we learned, the stories we cherish. They live within our memories & the stories we pass on to the next generation. 🖖

A heartbreaking week for Trekkers and an inestimable loss. Sir Patrick Stewart brought gravitas to each role he inhabited from the RSC to Captain of the 1701-D. Au revoir and RIP. You tread the highest boards sharing the stage with angels 🖖🌠

I don’t want to post the video. You’ve all seen it. But I do want to write a love letter… Dear everyone in Britain, ( even you illegals) Just so you understand. The poppy is for the boys who never got to grow old. For the boys who were still somebody’s baby, brother, uncle or father. More than 600,000 of them. It doesn’t matter if you support war, hate your country, think you are a woman (even though you are a man). It doesn’t matter which God you pray to, or if you pray to none at all. It doesn’t matter who you vote for, what climate narrative you believe, or whether you believe Israel should exist or not! The poppy isn’t for you! It’s for those who came before. Those who fought for your right to be weird, annoying or even foreign. The poppy is how we say thank you. Thank you for giving us time, peace and choice. And attempting to ban our poppy by declaring it politically divisive isn’t a move towards freedom. It is an act of suppression. Understand that. The poppy is about love and loss. For you! So stick your rainbow flags and every other flag where the sun doesn’t shine and just wear your poppy. Those boys did not die as symbols. They died for you! Did you know that poppies grew across the battlefields where so many fell? As though even the land refused to forget the blood once given to defend it. So the poppy is for them. For those who came before us and paid in youth, in hope, in breath, in blood, so that we might have the freedom to be arseholes. So that we might even have the freedom to fight over the ridiculous, the inconsequential and the insane. Revere it, celebrate it and wear it. The very least you can do is that. Best The ordinary people.

One of the best things about Babylon 5 was letting Walter Koenig play against the type we all knew him for and really show off some range. Treat yourself and watch some Babylon 5 and see Koenig play an absolutely terrifying and delightful freak.

Another Star Trek legend lost. Chekov was a true icon of scifi, and one of my fondest memories of any comic con was getting to shake Walter Koenig's hand and tell him how much I appreciated his work. RIP, sir.
Walter Koenig, who played Chekov in the original “Star Trek” series and seven “Star Trek” feature films, has died at 90. variety.com/2026/film/news/w…
