Really looking forward to meeting with the med students @WomenInNSGY initial live session in their “guide to research series”. Mentoring med students has been a career passion-
& cannot wait to discuss with the group!
Great initiative @HurleyMedical @CNS_Update @AANSNeuro

Replying to @DGlaucomflecken
@DGlaucomflecken I actually think there’s an interesting middle ground here. Medical student research can become CV-padding, but when done well, it can also teach critical thinking, writing, persistence, & how to finish difficult projects.
We developed the Arms Race Control Score (ARCS) to try to quantify that distinction- not simply how many papers, but the depth, effort, independence, continuity & impact of a learners research.
I’d genuinely love your thoughts on it. I suspect we agree on more than this thread suggests. – at Flint, MI
The amount of serious discourse I seem to have kicked off the last couple days is pretty wild. Nobody is banning med student research. Come on people. Clearly compulsory med student research is a big problem though. Should it be illegal, resulting in jail time? No, 3 days on the vascular surgery service should suffice.
Btw, the jail thing was a joke. I hate clarifying jokes, but I’m genuinely concerned about the well being of some of my biggest PhD haters.

Great advice @DrIftikharkhann !
This is a great way to get started.
One other caveat is to make sure there is a target journal. For example, some only accept invited letters or commentaries. Does that also apply to internal medicine ? Thx for the great tip

Excellent job presenting the #arcs
We can evaluate faculty so much more effectively than the current system of h-index.
Catch me presenting at @AANSNeuro our project on Arms Race Control Score and 4:54 PM. Thank you @BowersNsgyLab for a wonderful opportunity and the great mentorship!
