INTERVIEW: Dan Campbell originally wanted to keep wearing pads when he went from player to coach.
The Lions head coach has evolved and learned a lot since, and that includes learning from last year’s 9-8 “gut punch.”
Campbell shared why his six-year bond with Jared Goff is so special, why Drew Petzing is the right OC for Goff and the Lions right now, and how meaningful it is to see young players become fathers — all while working together to lead Detroit to a place they’ve never been.

Track just how much salary Dylan Larkin is forfeiting by refusing to play for the Red Wings, second-by-second! #LGRW
Dylan Larkin's time with the Red Wings has reached a closing point.
"To put it simply, we received the call from Dylan's agent today just saying that Dylan no longer was going to be coming to the rink and no longer wants to be a part of the Red Wings," interim general manager Shawn Horcoff said on Thursday.
The trade request remains in place, and the Red Wings will look to find a trade partner. Horcoff said he's ideally seeking NHL-ready players, but is open to any deals.
Shawn Horcoff said he tried to convince Dylan Larkin to stay in Detroit. Larkin and his camp held firm with the trade request to leave the Red Wings.
"For a large part Dylan kind of overcame the biggest hurdle, really, which was coming back and facing the initial (questions) from you guys and get on the ice for the first time with the fans," Horcoff said.
"My initial plan was to try to fix it. I wanted to try to do what I could to keep Dylan here and in a Red Wing jersey, and clearly I was unsuccessful doing that."
Patrick Kane received a grand ovation from Red Wings fans in his return to Detroit. The team played a tribute video for his time here.

“I'm open to all different kinds of deals, and really we're just trying to find something that is fair, for a return, for someone of Dylan's caliber. He's a heck of a player on a good contract.”
