262 days. It’s been 262 days since you were airlifted to BC Children’s Hospital. 262 days since we were told, “We did everything we could, but we don’t think she’s going to make it through the night.” Since then, I’ve watched you fight for every single one of those days. 251 days ago, you opened your eye, moved it, and shifted your leg only to be rushed back for emergency surgery that morning when hydrocephalus set in. 238 days ago, you were extubated and breathed on your own for the first time. 230 days ago, you felt the sun on your face again. 224 days ago, the cranioplasty we had planned turned into yet another emergency when an infection was discovered. 214 days ago, your EVD was finally removed. 213 days ago, you sat on the edge of the bed with a little help, and I wrapped my arms around you for the first time since the morning I left for work before any of this began. 191 days ago, the NG tube came out, and I saw your beautiful face completely clear of tubes and tape. 179 days ago, your prosthetic skull was placed. Your fifth surgery, and the one that finally stuck. After that, things slowly began to feel possible again. 145 days ago, you smiled for the first time (intentionally) while we played thumb war. 140 days ago, I wheeled you off hospital grounds for the very first time. 61 days ago, I heard your voice again. 40 days ago, we celebrated your 13th birthday at the Foo Fighters. And today, today you’re being released. There was never a day I stopped believing we would get here. The road ahead is still long, but this is a milestone no one thought we would reach. Maya, you are the bravest person I know. You are an inspiration to so many people. Giving up was never an option for me, and it clearly never was for you either. You refused to accept the words we heard 262 days ago when you came out of the OR. Look at you, my girl. You blew every expectation out of the water. Thank you to the incredible nurses, doctors, and therapists who walked every step of this with us. Thank you to everyone who supported Maya and our family we could not have done this without each and every one of you. Now it’s time to leave these hospital walls behind and keep moving forward, Maya Bear. I love you forever and always. —Dad ❤️

An 80.6% increase in food bank use over the last 5 years. We need a major course correct on affordability.

Context: This would raise BC to the highest income tax rate since 1981, and make the province (by a decent margin) the highest tax rate jurisdiction in Canada. The gap with Alberta would be back at 1990s levels. Data: financesofthenation.ca/statu…
NEW - @Dave_Eby proposes to raise income taxes on top two brackets by 2 percentage points, to generate $1b in extra revenue for BC. • $190,405-$265,545 will go from 16.8% to 18.8% • $265,545-$1m will go from 20.5% to 22.5% • New $1m+ tax at 24.5%

"Diesel prices are keeping many people in the food industry awake at night. Farmers are spending three times more on diesel than they did last year because they have no choice, and some food prices could rise by an additional 10% to 15% over the next two months if diesel prices remain elevated. It’s not a good situation."

My rough preliminary estimates on the size of all of these changes for #cdnecon. - Removing U.S. tariffs on ~$1.7b of trade - New tariffs on ~$1.8b (so, a wash) - Banning imports (alcohol mainly) on ~$1b (+ many banned items that Canada doesn't export to U.S.)
Today, President Donald J. Trump signed a series of orders adjusting tariffs on Canadian goods and restricting certain Canadian imports. 🧵 Here they are:

Excellent piece by @trevortombe. There is no economic case to be made for tariffs. You can only make a political case for them
Whatever one thinks about the merits of retaliatory tariffs, there are real costs to consider, especially on those Canadians least able to bear them. In my latest for @TheHubCanada, I estimate the effect on prices and households: thehub.ca/2026/09/01/a-4-bil… #cdnecon #cdnpoli

You're arguing for retaliatory tariffs. That is not a free trade position.
If by “red” you mean Canada’s colour 🇨🇦, hell yeah. But if by “red” you mean left wing: I’m arguing for free trade (a right wing position) against protectionism (historically a left wing position.)

This card had the best presentation out of any UFC I have ever seen. Dana openly stated they were going to lose money on it due to all of the extras that come with it. It was a once in a lifetime spectacle and a great event.
🚨| The UFC lost around $30 million on the #UFCWhiteHouse event. 💰❌ TKO President Mark Shapiro had previously estimated the event would cost around $60 million, with a portion of those expenses offset through sponsorships and advertising. (h/t @DamonMartin)

Kids are great! Have them as soon as you can if you are able.
Almost every guy I know who had a kid before the age of 30 is miserable. They are either: 1. Divorced 2. Trying to hold it together and aged poorly because of it The worst part is how performative all of this is. The effort they put into social media and talking about how "Blessed" they are, but once you see what's behind it, it's like they threw so much of their freedom in their prime years away. The amount of these guys who have the urge to cheat on their wives and chase younger single women is almost astounding.

They're just making it up as they go along.
UPDATE: The Mayor’s team has clarified there will no longer be a "library card-esque" ID requirement for the proposed city-owned grocery stores.

An unborn baby girl appears to smile the moment she hears her father's voice during an ultrasound. The sweet moment was caught on video as the dad spoke to his daughter and kissed her mother's belly, prompting smiles from everyone in the room. "I was completely overwhelmed with emotion and immediately started crying happy tears," mom Lia Oliveira said. She called it a "core memory" for their family and says she's grateful the moment has brought "a little sunshine" to millions of people around the world.

I've received many messages about the below message already today. The CBU Alumni Association is not transitioning to this council and does not support this action by @cbuniversity It is a direct attempt to silence the voices of alumni after we have attempted to bring forward concerns over the years, and it is also about money and control. I will be sharing more over the coming days.

If today doesn’t make it very clear, Canada must continue to diversify trade to other international markets. We can’t continue to subject ourselves to radical instability and disruption.

What a headline— P*rnhub and its parent company MindGeek/Aylo is one of the most vile, exploitative and criminal organizations in the world. The harm to children globally and lives that have been shattered for profit by this sex trafficking enterprise are incalculable.
