As soon as I saw the trailer for the segment on insta I knew Bari Scissorhands must have had a hand in circumsizing it.
Lesley Stahl’s 60 Minutes report on extremist Israeli settlers underwent a contentious screening process at the Bari Weiss-led CBS News, leading the veteran correspondent to privately express the possibility of quitting the show Scoop from @oliverdarcy status.news/p/bari-weiss-les…

MISTY GREEN really ought to learn the ins and outs of Calfornia's generous squatters rights laws, she could have stayed in that dead man's apartment for at least another eight months.

The White Sox were a nice story but striking out 15 times a game across a five game series is one of the more embarrassing modern baseball stats yet achieved. Easily the worst division series collapse I can recall save the 2012 Reds.

José Ramírez is one of the best players of his generation. Not a lot of guys who can take a 100-mph top-rail fastball out of the yard. Guardians are ahead in a must-win game, 3-2.

Intelligence must draw on memory. The mind must not simply compile data — as an algorithm now does more quickly than we can — but recall lived experiences, which contain depths of meaning that only the human soul can recognize, and connect more deeply with the goodness of these experiences. Everything that is good begins “with the Spirit” and thus possesses a breath, a dynamism and a sense of communion that, once experienced, are engraved upon the heart. vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/e…

Secretary Hegseth’s desire to conduct a public execution is disturbing and should be stopped. The Army has not conducted an execution by firing squad since World War II and the U.S. has not had a public execution since 1936. Nidal Hasan has been found guilty of his crimes and should be held accountable for them but turning a federal execution into a media spectacle is appalling and unbecoming of the U.S. military.  cnn.com/2026/10/08/politics/…

I love that GOP pols are afraid to attack a man who has actually smoked weed on the roof of the White House. Privileged position in the culture.
Willie’s music is great, but historically, this has been the beginning of the end for Democrat campaigns in Texas….

Historically speaking, being mayor of New York City means that everyone more or less hates you for hyper-specific, contradictory reasons. In this sense, October 7th was the day Zohran Mamdani truly became mayor

9 months ago, ICE agent Jonathan Ross murdered Renée Good in broad daylight and called her a "fucking bitch" as he walked away. Renée's family and our community have yet to see justice for this senseless murder. It's unacceptable. We must prosecute and abolish ICE.

Are we going to act like this is normal? When a sitting president boasts about the "very bad things" he could have done to his political rivals, that's not bravado. It's unchecked power and, quite frankly, threatening.
Trump: "I could've done very bad things to Hillary Clinton. I could've done very very bad things to Joe Biden. I could've done very bad things to Barack Hussein Obama ... I can do whatever I want, if I want."

woman who hates kids is facing felony charges after walking into Rufus King International High School in Milwaukee, telling staff she was a substitute, and getting placed in an 11th-grade class. Amy Jones, 23, a former student, allegedly cursed at kids, used racial slurs, separated them by race and gender, called one student “fat boy,” and asked a girl if she wanted to be a stripper or a hooker. She also allegedly told two white boys they were the type to start school shootings. She told police she did it because she was bored and hates kids. She was released on bail with a no-contact order.

. @brett_mcgurk is one of our nation’s great experts on the Middle East and has spent decades working at the highest levels of diplomacy through some of the region’s most consequential moments. I’m really looking forward to reading Brink and learning from his firsthand account of the extraordinary efforts to free the hostages, and confront the extraordinary challenges of the region.

I watched this sad game in its entirety, at a now defunct bar in SoHo, after a NYFA shift teaching trust funders. The 1st playoff game my favorite team had played in 15 years, I limped around in a daze for hours afterwards. RIP RH.
16 years years ago, during his first postseason appearance, Roy Halladay throws a no-hitter - one of the greatest pitching performances I have seen in my lifetime

I blame this situation for the overwhelming pessimism with which I regard most human affairs.
OTD 1995: #Reds swept the Dodgers (3-0) to win the NLDS....31 years ago...........11,323 days ago. They have not won a playoff series since. 31 years without a playoff series win is the longest active drought in MLB.....14 years longer than the next closest team, the Angels (2009). Every team in MLB has one at least one playoff since the Reds last one a series. Think about all that's happened in your life, in the world, over the last 31 years. Basically, you'd have to be at least 35 years old to have witnessed/remember the last series win by the Reds. The Reds have lost all six postseason series since winning the NLDS on this date 1995......going 2-15 in postseason games. 1995: 0-4 Braves 2010: 0-3 Phillies 2012: 2-3 Giants 2013: 0-1 Pirates 2020: 0-2 Braves 2025: 0-2 Dodgers
