Now and then I contemplate, if I had the money at say, 60, how fun it would be to own, host & curate (not manage), a small no-menu, no customization, improv-based, live jazz & folk café bistro 7AM-1AM. Then I also think how much fun the no sneakers no jeans dress code would be.

If you read poetry off a mobile phone as an invited performer, you should be thrown out a window.

I often think how much better it would have been for Ireland if Napoleon had won. So many things would be different, and so much would be fascinating. Also there'd be gazillions of us.

Colleague shared an AI transcription. "Boinkalure." A series of sentences about "pale meat" & one exec says: "We just actually were sitting on the front of the stage a little bit, touching on the sex question for you." The future is here.

I've the pleasure to perform at the amazing Ó'Bhéal go Béal Winter Festival, Sat., Nov. 21, 730 PM, Bolt Studios, Patrick's Quay, Cork. I can't wait. The set will be a riot, & I guarantee fury, song & fire. A pleasure too, to share a stage with Mona Lynch. Cork, Come along!

Milk does not belong in scrambled eggs, nor does it belong in mash potatoes. Both of these things simply require butter, salt, pepper, and plenty of care and gentleness. Milk in mash potatoes is a worse crime than milk in scrambled eggs. Mash should not be a liquid.

There's one thing I don't get about this stuff that just won a Forward prize. I get why people like it - it's passably amusing stand-up - & why he likes doing it, he's fun on stage. He seems likable too. But why insist it's poetry when it clearly isn't? youtu.be/vK4wYhvTJXI?is=AaLv…

It's also extremely old hat at this point. Yet every blurb, every 'award' nominated by criteria that don't put quality first... They all claim revolutionary status, redefining XYZ, and pushing XYZ boundaries, as a rebellion... Yet it's all identikit sameasthelastoneism

On the adjacent, aye, can see that, definitely fel like this could be stronger in France :) Though the Tempest/McNish/Pederson ilk, oh lord makes me want to smash my face in with a rock. So dulled down, so bland. And again, thank ye both!

Why co-opt a concept then say you're stylistically rebelling against gatekeepers? The institutions have even given up so this stuff now is the gatekeeper. What on Earth is the point? Why did stand-up (& trauma diarying elsewhere) decide to steal the word poetry?

Equally, why do they then constantly attack actual poetry for being bahhd elitism. It's like wandering into a film set and just recording aardvarks, insisting it's an action movie, that all action is aardvarks, and yelling at anyone who wants a bit of Arnie or Sly Stallone.
