Welcome to the @LibDems, Kieran. 🔶
I am delighted to announce that I have joined the Liberal Democrats. 🔶
And yes, before X beats me to it, I was briefly a member for three months when I was 17. It turns out I just took the long way home 😂
The last few weeks have given me time to reflect on my political beliefs, why I entered politics and what matters most to me.
Spending part of my childhood in the care system shaped who I am today. It taught me early on that life isn’t always fair, that not everyone gets the same opportunities, and that having someone in your corner can make all the difference.
That experience is a big part of why I entered politics. To me, liberalism is about giving everyone the freedom, fairness and opportunity to make something of their lives, regardless of their background.
My decision to leave the Green Party over their “Zionism is racism” motion was one of principle. I will never compromise on challenging prejudice.
At a time when extremism and division are increasingly dominating politics, I believe we need a positive alternative. One that offers hope over fear, brings people together and focuses on what really matters.
Even as a Green councillor, I respected the way the Liberal Democrats challenged Labour and held the administration to account.
Having now spoken with the Sefton Liberal Democrats , I’m encouraged by their positive vision for our borough and their commitment to local communities.
I’m proud to be joining the team and look forward to playing my part in its future.
Cllr Kieran Dams
🍰 It was great to pop into the Community Café today. There is always a warm welcome, not to mention delicious soup and cakes! We are commencing regular councillor surgeries here, so residents can talk to us about any local issues or concerns they may have. We’ll keep you posted.
🚧 Advance Notice of temporary road closure on Whitby Rd, anticipated between 3 Dec 2026 & 26 Jan 2027. This is the short, residential section of Whitby Road between Bloomfield Road and Hillsborough Road so the main road from St Philip’s Causeway to Feeder Road is unaffected.

This is what a valid prayer card looks like, @Nigel_Farage.
Got one today. Attended prayers. Seat reserved. No altercation required.
Happy to show you how it works sometime.

Fake news.
I was 2nd in the MPs’ queue from 7.30am this morning (behind Des Swayne) for a prayer card to reserve a seat and there was no sign of Farage then.
I didn’t see him come to prayers at 11.30am to come and claim a seat then either.
You snooze, you lose.
Nigel Farage was unable to attend the Budget in the Commons because his seat reservation was removed, The Telegraph understands.
The Reform UK leader’s prayer card — a green slip of paper that backbench MPs put on a spot on the green benches to reserve their seat — was moved after it was placed this morning.

Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Farage's prayer card lacked a valid date stamp and was removed per House of Commons protocol. MPs confirm seats were available and he did not attend prayers.

This week, we spoke to the BBC about how we want greater public control over our buses 🚌 people deserve a reliable network, and franchising would allow decisions to be made by elected representatives. The WECA Mayor should use the Bus Plan to set a timetable for public control📅

Imagine giving 53 years to your party, then being told you can't stand because you believe in human rights.
The Tories have lost a decent man & a powerful voice for London.
Yet again, Badenoch’s Conservatives are happy to chase Reform UK and exclude tolerant, liberal Londoners

I have enormous respect for Andrew Boff. From defending Trans rights to backing fairer votes and the ECHR, he's a man of principle. A Conservative Party that can't accommodate lifelong Tories like him isn't worthy of its name. It's now just a second-rate Reform tribute act.

Kemi Badenoch says anyone who wants to stand as a Conservative candidate at the next election must support her plan to withdraw from the ECHR.
Last week, a number of her MPs didn’t vote for her flagship policy.
Will she withdraw the whip?

Today, we have started a new chapter for Bristol's libraries. We have consigned Labour's shocking contempt for our libraries to history, and have set in place a strategy to ensure a bright and secure future for every library in our city.
