EU would be lucky to survive this coming pan-European revolution. EU will have to bail out France and cut funds to others who may peel off. France may implode and drag Germany into a fiscal crisis. Then a revolution may cause the EU to crash.
Donbas has a right to secede from Ukraine if Ukraine had a right to secede from the USSR. You cannot uphold the right of self-determination in one case but not in the other.
No NATO membership for Ukraine. Putin is trying to convince Stubb that Finland was, and still can be, better off as a neutral country and that it can benefit from trade with Russia.
The US is likely to abandon NATO as its interests shift to Asia, Far East, Middle East. Any attempt by Germany to take the lead will result in collapse of German NATO. As for UK, it is too weak to do anything militarily.

Why can't they get rid of Zelensky? They fear the whole system will fall apart.

Who says Putin trusts Trump? One has to be a fool to trust a manipulator like Trump. Putin uses an opening to break through the sanctions regime. That is all. The rest is a smokescreen.
Observing freedom of navigation means not seizing Russian ships. The EU did it. There is no concept of a shadow fleet in international law. Seizing Russian vessels is piracy. If Finland says it will observe maritime law, that means no piracy, i.e., no seizure of Russian vessels.
Real power in Ukraine has always belonged to the Oligarchs who used Zelensky as a convenient smokescreen for their money-making scheme to milk the West. They are divided into clans at war with each other, and all are beholden to Banderaist armed militias.

Russian war aims: no NATO, Donbass+ other liberated provinces, black sea and control of ports, plus no foreign troops, plus Orthodox church, plus Russian language rights, plus ban on neo-NAZI parties, plus trial of war criminals, plus regime change.

it is not a matter of trust. Putin is playing Trump to gain what he wants.

Some argue: The US establishment plus the EU back Zelensky to survive! No, in six months, EU leaders will change. EU has no money, and it is in terminal decline. The Democratic Party's priority is a leftist agenda for the US, rather than fighting Zelensky's war.
Ukraine had its independence and FRIENDSHIP treaty with Russia until 2014, and then Baderovites decided to sell out to NATO, and Donbas refused to submit to their coup'etat. And then the British and Americans decided to use Ukraine as a weapon against Russia.

Trump is not a free agent. He has never freed himself from the deep state. If he is so weak that he cannot cut Starlink or replace Zelensky, why would Putin bother dealing with him?
Russia does not need to attack US bases in EU as Iran did in the Middle East, simply because the US will withdraw them itself, as it is a waste of money. The bases have shifted from forward posts of strength to sitting ducks, useless in the age of hypersonic missiles.
