This is the heartbreaking reality from my perspective in Mekelle. The drought and the war are converging on the people of #Tigray.
A humanitarian pause is urgently needed to protect innocent civilian lives.

"Tigray's future will not be secured by another round of political competition dressed up as leadership. It'll be secured...when women move from being society's unpaid backbone to becoming equal architects of its future."
Thank you @segenyan for writing this timely piece.
#Opinion: The Corridor We Must Force Open: A #Tigrayan woman’s reckoning
The recent crisis in #Ethiopia’s #Tigray region exposed deep failures in governance, compounded by external destruction. In the absence of adequate institutional support, communities relied on generations of solidarity to survive, writes Segen Yainshet Tesfamariam.
She argues that “improvisation, however courageous, is not a strategy,” criticizing a political culture shaped by the “myth of the Alpha Male” and factional power struggles that have sidelined women and young people.
Segen emphasizes that lasting recovery requires a shift away from personality-driven politics towards accountable public institutions.

My first opinion piece is out
“The Corridor We Must Force Open: A Tigrayan woman’s reckoning”.
On why improvisation isn’t enough, the myth of the Alpha Male, and the need for real institutions. Calling on women & women-led organizations to lead this shift. Seeking your feedbacks

Brilliant opinion piece arguing for #Tigray/an woman to “move from being society’s unpaid backbone to becoming equal architects of its future.”

In Aksum I had dinner with someone who was on their way back from Rama and she was despondent about the impact of the drought.
This drone campaign is hitting farmers and hungry families who were already struggling to survive. This has to end.

Sept–Oct 2026, we had dual impact: delivering ETB 190,800 in emergency aid to 444 displaced women & children, while actively documenting violations of IHRL and IHL. @GemTigray demands international accountability & civilian protection. #Tigray #HumanRights

🌱 At Limat Selam Irrigation Cooperative in Mechare, Raya Azebo, farmers are growing diverse crops despite drought.
With support from REST & WFP and partners, Abadi Hayelom earned over ETB 400,000 last year, improving his family’s wellbeing.

In Tigray, we provided medical supplies to Chercher Health Centre and hospitals in Alamata, Mahoni, and Maychew in the Southern zone.
Healthcare facilities, personnel, & patients must be protected during conflict. We continue to support access to healthcare for those affected.

Drought has left fields bare in Raya Azebo and Raya Chercher, Tigray. Farmers hope the belg rains continue—and urgently need seeds and livestock feed. REST and WFP are supporting community resilience through irrigation and drought-mitigation efforts. #DroughtResponse #ElNiño

Gonna need these media outlets to start reporting on bombings of civilians in Yechila, #Tigray.
@addisstandard
Imagine being a parent in Yechila right now. Sometime today or tomorrow, you will have to walk five hours for clean water, past hostile soldiers, past UXO, and hope that you make it back to your family alive.
Please pray for the brave families in Yechila.

Something to note about Natna’s #Ashenda program- natnacf.org intentionally sourced everything in #Tigray, from the dressmakers to the hair braiders to the shops for the pads, so your sponsorship also supported local business owners ❤️✨
The malnutrition rate in Yechila for pregnant and lactating women is 89%.
More than one in every five children under five there are acutely malnourished.
People have to walk five hours for water.
Stop bombing #Tigray.
The workforce participation rate for Somali Americans is 8 percentage points higher than White Non-Hispanics and they make half the median salary.
The hardest working Americans are being attacked by an administration of influencers.
Our greatness cannot not endure this rot.
Again. The sitting president went on tv and made up several lies to slander actual Americans today and these people are outraged over the Cheesecake Factory.
