"Leadership from the governor down was visible, energetic and knowledgeable. Prisoners were treated as individuals, and we found many examples of good care"
HMP Gartree - a positive culture built on excellent relationships between staff and prisoners. Read our inspection report - justiceinspectorates.gov.uk/… And our media release - justiceinspectorates.gov.uk/… And see the healthy prison scores -

We continue to call on government to give priority for all those in prisons for C19 Vaccinations. This informative thread illustrates one of the reasons we make this call.
1/4. New @NuffieldTrust analysis comparing the no of Covid-19 cases in prisons to the general population over the last 6-months. Age-sex standardised case rates per 1,000 have consistently been higher in prison, despite the extended lockdown across the prison estate.

Unimaginable risks are faced by frontline prison staff; those imprisoned are also at risk. Its unlikely society would except mass early release to reduce these risks. It may be unpopular but those in prisons should be included as a specific group to receive priority vaccinations

We have confidence in our organisations ability to respond to these events. Things will be tough, perhaps pushing us to limits never experienced before. But all our colleagues across HMPPS are the best, they will rise to any challenge. Listen to facts not rumours

A bit of healthy competition today with our neighbours HMP Featherstone. A great game of volleyball but not much of a challenge for the mighty #teambrinsford. 😉 Thank you to all the players including @Busadada. Any other challengers out there? #victorious #teamhmpps #hmpps

Good luck in your new role Russ, and our continued support to Steve and all his team at Bristol. Whilst things across the estate are not where they should be, we applaud the hard-work and perseverance of all our frontline colleagues, often in the most challenging situations.
Great to be at HMP Bristol this morning to follow up on inspection reports and meet our new Prison Group director - thank you to the team

We sent these to a prisoner who wrote: "Thank you very much for the last shipment of books you sent. They shut down the library on my unit for an indeterminate amount of time. So I pass around the books you guys sent me and it sure lights up their eyes... You have [our] thanks."

Governor of HMP Featherstone: 25% of inmates took drugs for first time in my prison. Half test +ive for NPS. Rose's story reminds us we can't always treat people who take drugs as criminals. We have to ask what is the cause for people to take drugs?
