FOUNDERS FRIDAY: Volo
What if the technology that tracks a parcel could also help a driver get an electric motorcycle?
Volo Africa, co-founded by Cindynhan Nyambura, is a logistics technology company connecting businesses, drivers and delivery services.
It started with a different idea: a ride-hailing platform giving drivers 50% of the profits. But as the founders dug into the challenges drivers face in earning a living, they landed on deliveries, where businesses and customers often have no idea where a parcel is once it's collected.
Think of a small business selling on WhatsApp or Facebook Marketplace that can arrange a delivery but can't tell a customer when it will arrive. Volo is building a platform to fix that, and to give drivers better tools to manage their deliveries.
The longer-term ambition is to use logistics data to help drivers build a financial record and open up access to electric mobility.
