How cool is it that our culinary students get opportunities like this? ๐๐ฝ๏ธโ โ
Six students from the Redler Institute of Culinary Arts recently got to serve as judges for a Chopped-style cooking competition featuring chefs from Legend Senior Living, putting their culinary knowledge to work as they evaluated cooking skills, plate presentation, use of the secret ingredient and taste.โ โ
They handled the whole experience like pros, and even better, got a firsthand look at another career path they could pursue in the culinary industry. Experiences like this are such a valuable part of learning beyond the classroom. ๐ฉ๐ผโ๐ณโ โ

Jessica Turner was drawn to Butlerโs highly respected nursing program and the opportunity to earn an affordable, high-quality education close to home. Nursing instructor Janice Jones also left a lasting impact, teaching Turner that nursing is about more than patient care โ itโs about professionalism, growth and sharing knowledge with others.โฃโฃ
โฃโฃ
Today, Turner serves as Chief Nursing Officer at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital while pursuing her Doctorate of Education. Butler gave her the foundation for her nursing career and helped shape the leader she is today.โฃโฃ
โฃโฃ
Now, Turner gives back by returning to Butler to speak with future nurses and invest in the next generation of healthcare professionals. ๐โฃโฃ

So much support for our art students, past and present. ๐๐จโ

We loved seeing so many people come out for the Alumni Art Reception and hearing from the 12 alumni artists who were able to join us. They shared a little about their time at Butler, their experiences after graduation and where their creative work has taken them since.โ

Things got a little competitive in the kitchen this week. ๐๐ฝ๏ธ
The Redler Institute of Culinary Arts hosted chefs from Legend Senior Living for a day of learning and collaboration focused on how they can better serve their senior residents, ending with a Chopped-style cooking competition. The chefs joined us from Legend Senior Living operations across Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Colorado.
Six of our students judged the competition from start to finish, scoring the chefs on:

๐จ Plate presentation
๐ฅ Use of the secret ingredient
๐ Taste
It was a pretty cool opportunity for our students to see just how many paths are out there in the culinary industry. ๐ฝ๏ธ

Small class sizes, scholarships and a strong sense of community brought Christian Lehr to Butler. The experience gave him a solid foundation as he prepared to continue his education and career.โฃโฃ
โฃ
At the time, Butlerโs Fire Science program was new, and Lehr says the experience kept him engaged, even though his career eventually took a different direction.โฃโฃ
โฃ
After graduating from Butler, Lehr continued his education and began a career in banking in 2001. Today, he serves as SVP and Director of Treasury Management at Emprise Bank, helping customers reach their potential through automation, industry best practices and customized account management.โฃโฃ
โฃ
โButler was an excellent transition for me after high school and gave me a solid college foundation to complete a bachelorโs program.โโฃ

Yesterday, the 184th Cyberspace Operations Group from McConnell Air Force Base joined us at Butler to share their Perspective of the Wolf cybersecurity presentation with faculty and students. ๐ป๐
The presentation explored cybersecurity from both the defender and attacker perspectives, giving students a closer look at how threats operate and how they can be defended against.
Weโre excited about the cyber learning opportunities this partnership creates for Butler students and the community, as well as the collaboration happening through the regional Cyber Consortium with other community colleges.

For Sherri Conard, Butler was an affordable way to begin her college education close to home. But her experience quickly became about much more than saving money.โฃโฃ
โฃ
As a student worker in the Financial Aid Office and an Ambassador for Admissions, Conard gained confidence, learned to balance work and school, and built friendships and connections that would stay with her long after graduation.โฃโฃ
โฃ
After earning her bachelorโs degree from Emporia State University, Conard returned to Butler to begin her professional career โ and never left. Today, she is entering her 29th year as a Butler employee.โฃโฃ
โฃ
Butler has also become a family tradition. All three of Conardโs children attended and graduated from Butler, and she and her husband have established a Foundation Scholarship to help todayโs students begin their own Butler stories.โฃโฃ
โฃ
โButler not only provided me with an affordable education, but it also gave me experiences that, at the time, I didnโt know a community college provided.โโฃ
