a common mental of Singapore is a Disneyland with Death Penalty but in reality it’s a lot more like living in a country where everyone is a Larry David turned up to 11
This is the most Singaporean thing ever lol

super excited to be working with this team at @modal
our team has been heads down building for years and I'm just so grateful for the response to Phonic-1's launch yesterday I love my team. they built a model that's.. #1 on AA's speech-to-speech index #1 on AA's 𝜏-Voice (agentic performance) #1 on Sierra's τ³-Voice #1 on Cekura's s2s benchmark #1 on Veris's VAmoS Pro Bench #2 on Bluejay's MIVAS s2s benchmark we literally just dropped seven figures on a new compute cluster to support the load we can't wait to continue pushing the frontier for our customers!! try it out and let me know what you think

I'm joining @modal! Software is undergoing a revolution; we need new tools and infrastructure for this new era. @modal is the platform I want in these times, so I decided to help build it. If you want to come build it with me: modal.jobs and my DMs are open!

it took me building a shitty version of it to understand why pi durable is great. in essence it’s “just” way to serialize your session. that sounds straightforward until you try to do it yourself and realize there are tons of choices that if you get a single one wrong, you lock yourself out of building anything usable.
pi durable is fucking awesome btw

then i decided to rebuild it with my own newfound wisdom and this time it was so overengineered that i never got around to using it properly and by this point i got nothing done and realized this is actually a hard problem

then i saw the pi-durable launch and didnt get it at all for a bit and ignored it thinking it was some cloud hosting stuff and then one day i realized i could just read the code and then saw my own horrors all solved elegantly

the reason for this is engineers / people on Twitter live in their agents now and of course everything should work with their tools but normies, even technical people who buy other tools, don’t have time to tinker with every tool so they want a curated dashboard
every product i use should just be a headless mcp, that feeds into an agent, where i never have to think about anything underneath. except for our product, of course. in our product, customers love the ui and love us very much. we're special that way.

this loosely feels like how with Web 2.0 everyone had APIs for everything and “your API is your biz dev” now. Yeah, well, people still want high touch interaction, giving away all your goodies via API feels good but has business implications and people are fundamentally lazy / busy.

I am not saying you should not build MCPs and make your product work headless. You should, hundo, but that’s not going be the end state of tools imo.

every time I think about slack’s architecture this image comes to mind
it is honestly quite baffling to me that openai and anthropic still use slack. i expect this will change within the next six months. they could quite clearly build and maintain internal versions that are *more* secure, robust, and featureful with a team of ~10
