Relief for freelancers with respect to EDF 🎯
RBI : individuals serving clients abroad (tutoring, small software) are NOT required to report under the new EDF rules, any amount.
For exporters: "up to 10 lakh rupees per bill, not annually… a self declaration will suffice"
FAQ soon 👇
Whether you work at a CA firm or an MNC your Diwali bonus tells you a lot about how much your employer values you
Saw this on Reddit and I think a lot of Indian freelancers working through Upwork could run into the same issue under the new EDF framework effective 1 October.
The problem is simple: the invoice names the overseas client, but the SWIFT message shows “Payment Escrow Inc.”
Here’s my take
1. A name mismatch doesn’t automatically mean rejection. Regulation 8 of the FEMA (Export and Import of Goods and Services) Regulations, 2026 permits third party receipts subject to the AD bank being satisfied about the transaction’s genuineness.
2. Payment Escrow Inc. is Upwork’s escrow company. Upwork itself has confirmed the name change from Upwork Escrow Inc.
3. What should freelancers do?
Submit the Upwork invoices, withdrawal statements, bank credit details and an invoice wise reconciliation to establish the payment trail.
Ask your AD bank to assess the transaction under Regulation 8.
The key is to establish the connection between the overseas client, Upwork and the remitter.
Newly qualified CAs charging lower fees are often accused of devaluing the profession
Funny how this lecture often comes from second generation CAs who inherited a client base, goodwill and referrals
A first generation CA has to build all of that from ZERO
You can't expect someone starting from scratch to play by the same rules as someone who never had to start from scratch
Fee discipline matters. So does perspective.

First Microsoft. Now Oracle.
Oracle’s India workforce has reportedly seen around 3,000 employees impacted by layoffs, and the company may extend its voluntary separation scheme to India.
Meanwhile AI investments are surging.
The question is no longer whether AI will change jobs. It’s how many jobs companies will need once AI changes how work gets done.
The next 2–3 years could be a wake-up call for every professional
The next 2–3 years are going to be brutal for the job market.
Massive layoffs. Fewer freshers getting hired. Companies doing more with smaller teams.
AI is coming for routine work across almost every industry
Whether you're a CA, MBA, software engineer or anyone else, it's time to adapt before the market forces you to.

Hot take:
A CA who knows Tally, GST returns, ITR filing and Audits can start earning independently.
A CA who knows only how to prepare for the next job interview might still be waiting for the “right opportunity”
Practical skills or corporate packages what matters more?

🚨 GST UPDATE | IMPORTANT FOR TAXPAYERS
Non payment of GST does NOT automatically mean fraud.
CBIC has clarified that invoking fraud-related provisions under Sections 74/74A requires material evidence of:
• Fraud
• Wilful misstatement
• Suppression of facts with intent to evade tax
A tax discrepancy and an allegation of fraud are not the same thing.
The quality of evidence and the reasons recorded matter.
