Commissioner Bettman statement on the passing of Barry Melrose. media.nhl.com/public/news/20…
A sad day. Barry was one of hockey’s most impactful voices and colourful personalities as a player, coach and analyst. Condolences to his family, friends and all who loved him in the hockey world.
Barry was my best friend at ESPN. A big brother figure of rock solid values. I am shook to my core. Barry gave his life to hockey and some of his ESPN family, like me, learned of his shocking death today while at a hockey rink in Las Vegas preparing for the upcoming season. Chilling and fitting--the rink was Barry's home. A more beloved ESPN institution there has not been. We love you, Barry. Forever.

Saddened to hear of John McKeachie’s passing. All of us in sports media love our jobs but few relished his gig more than McKeach. Condolences to the entire BC sports community which he embraced and covered so well.
In the pantheon of greatest Canadian broadcasters. As friendly and genuine in person as he was on air.
Another great day to be Canadian. Aren’t they all! #HappyCanadaDay

On D-Day, 14,000 Canadians landed at Juno Beach, supported by the Royal Canadian Navy and the RCAF. The day saw 1,074 Canadian casualties, including 359 killed. It was a watershed moment in human history.
Here are some of the Canadian stories from that day.

Several soldiers wear helmets and heavy gear, with some facing forward toward rough water and a distant naval vessel. The backs of soldiers near the bow show markings on their jackets. Waves rise along the side of the craft as it moves through the water.

As a kid I listened to Foster Hewitt and dreamed one day I could be that voice calling games. To be named a Foster Hewitt Award winner is the honour of a lifetime. Overwhelmed to be joining so many of my heroes and esteemed colleagues. Grateful to all who’ve helped along the way.
