Hope they don't mind me bird-dogging, but here's the respective updated Top 12 marble standings for @CFBMarbleGame (1) and @cfbmarbles (2). (1) is the original flavor marble transfer rules, (2) has slighty different rules. Either, I will suggest, is superior to hungover idiot sports columnists with ballots

And now Georgia. 109 marble haul puts them firmly in first place.

New CFB Marble Game standings are in! Once again these really don't start shaking out until around Week 7, so these are largely for amusement until then. Scoring rules and complete rankings are at the link.

CFB Marble Game ranking after Week 1 is out. They won't mean much until week 6 or so, but you can track their evolution after each game. As always, thanks to @_KevinSmith for making this happen!
Marble rankings going into week 2 are now live! cfbmarblegame.com/?season=20…

(a) the Marble Game playoff would only include 3 Big Ten teams: 13-0 Indiana, 12-1 Ohio State, and 11-1 Oregon. (b) there is no whining among any other Big Ten teams that they have a divine right to a playoff bid with 3 losses nitter.cf/PaperworkNinja/status/…
If they don't go with the marble game, I say we go with maximum suffering and restrict it to conference champions only. I'd rather see the MAC or C-USA champions get in rather than four teams per power conference. Will they get blown out? Probably. Is it worth Big Ten pain? Yes.

If you budgeted for twenty or so grandees to fly in to somewhere once a quarter to "monitor the marbles," we could sell this.

If I were in charge of college football, I'd merely get rid of the playoff selection committee and replace it with some version of the @CFBMarbleGame. I suppose that's delusional too, but it'd be easier to bully a single ESPN than 136 separate university presidents

Perhaps rather than rewarding a close game winner, punish a blowout loser. If you lose by more than 28 points you lose an extra 10% of your marbles. This forces teams to play closer to each other without having to determine what "close" is. It also rewards teams who keep playing.

The fairest way is based on the @CFBMarbleGame. No conference auto-bids. No guaranteed conference bids. Just the top teams.

Let's post this to the wider X. Dave is contemplating scoring "close" games differently. Let me know your thoughts. Please read all comments. Suggestions welcome, but note some are far more work to test than others. @CFBMarbleGame @iowahawkblog

@iowahawkblog @CFBMarbleGame Hey guys, I've been noodling Dave's idea of scoring close games differently somehow. But how does one objectively define a "close" game? Being a simple man, I chose to start by testing the most obvious "close" games--Overtime Games. The "New" rule I'm testing and demonstrating is "Overtime games are scored as a tie. No marbles exchanged." Teams that win in OT will have fewer marbles in this scenario, and teams that lose in OT will have more. Big movers include Texas Tech, BYU and Miami. Also, check out UConn. Had it not been for their 3 OT losses, they'd be undefeated! Luckiest team (by Lucky Marbles count) is Virginia. Unluckiest is Louisville. Of course, I can test a less punitive version of OT scoring, perhaps "Winners of OT games get 10% of opponent's marbles, regardless of field." Just say the word. Results in next comment. But don't click on the image! Just click on my comment, and it should show up.

SEC fan (Gators) and I agree. They need to adopt the @CFBMarbleGame ranking system. It's the most fair, unbiased way to rank teams

Marble Game status as of 4pm ET: Texas Tech is #1, but the winner of OSU/IU *will* pass them, so they will finish #2. (Georgia cannot catch them.) BYU drops to #12. Tulane is still #19 despite their win. They're only one marble behind USC. James Madison moved up two spots, passing Michigan and TCU. @CFBMarbleGame @iowahawkblog

No need! Will do more when I have the time, it’s just a busy season at the moment. Donations wouldn’t change that. But thank you!

I think it'd be cool to compute a retrospective @CFBMarbleGame championship for every season since 1900, but not sure how you'd handle the definition of "power conference" over that time span. For a long time Ivy League could rightly be considered a "power conference"

Maybe start a @givesendgo to pay @_kevinsmith to further develop @cfbmarblegame to include more historical data & tools to chart & compare both current season & historical seasons performance. If he’d have the interest or anyone else. So its data will be more out there. Get folks who see the issues with the current system like @stoolpresidente to feature, maybe even promote it.
