It’s finally time for the Federal government to lower the small business tax rate (SBTR).
Here’s Corinne Pohlmann, Executive Vice-President, Advocacy, on how a cut to the SBTR will help Canadian small businesses survive recent instability.

Great meeting today with Premier Tony Wakeham and Lloyd Parrott, Minister of Red Tape Reduction, alongside CFIB Vice-President, Advocacy Corinne Pohlmann.
We shared what Newfoundland and Labrador small business owners are telling us matters most:
• Eliminating the 15% retail sales tax on insurance, a cost that hits small firms year after year
• Continued progress on red tape reduction, so owners spend less time on paperwork and more time running their businesses
• Construction mitigation legislation to support businesses hurt by long-term roadwork and infrastructure projects
Thank you to the Premier and Minister for the productive conversation. We look forward to continuing to work together on behalf of NL's small businesses

With rumours that this week’s federal budget focused on small business and entrepreneurship, the big test will be whether government includes broad-based measures, like a reduction in the small business corporate tax rate.
Reducing small biz taxes or a payroll tax like EI would have far more positive impacts than the traditional approach of creating new funds or complicated grant and loan programs to shower support on a handful of well-connected companies.
After dozens of pre-budget meetings with Ministers and MPs with all parties, I’ll be in Ottawa on Thursday to review and comment on the budget.
This would be very welcome news. 87% of small businesses want Canada and the US to negotiate an agreement as quickly as possible. 30% of Canadian SMEs say they are at risk of permanent closure within the next 12 months if this is unresolved.
Carney’s positive trade talk comments were accompanied by an equally positive statement from the White House given to Global News #cdnpoli

The Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) is calling on the federal government to put small businesses at the centre of its Nov. 5 budget. Topping the list of priorities for entrepreneurs is cutting the small business tax rate, along with fixing the gaps in Canada's tariff relief programs that cut out small firms. 🔗 For more information, visit:

Canada’s succession crunch is coming.
📈 63% of small business owners plan to exit within the next decade, yet only 6% have a formal succession plan.
That puts over $2 trillion in business assets at risk, along with jobs, local services and communities across Canada.
But there’s also a huge opportunity for the next generation of entrepreneurs to take over established Canadian businesses and build on what their owners have created.
CFIB’s latest report explores the challenges and what governments can do to support successful ownership transitions.
