Poor lad. It honestly broke my heart and my eyes teared hearing his shaky voice. seeing how much pressure was placed on him to take a side. And somehow, he still managed to acknowledge the pain and concerns of both peoples, admit that he doesn’t know enough to pretend otherwise, and choose unity through music instead of adding more division. Please leave him alone after this. Stop weaponizing him for political agendas. Let the noise die down. Let the man sing. Let him create. Just let him be. @edsheeran

This is just a fragment of the absolutely nightmarish stuff from the just-released UN report on sexual violence in Russia's invasion of Ukraine: • Violations detailed in the report include rape, gang rape, genital mutilation, electric shocks, and genital beating • Russian forces are responsible for the vast majority of sexual violence in Ukraine • The majority of victims are Ukrainian men. In a common form of torture against Ukrainian POWs detailed in the report, Russian forces electrocuted men's genitals using tasers or a Soviet-era military field telephone known as a 'tapik.' • Women and children, primarily in Ukrainian territory occupied by Russian forces, also fell victim to rapes and sexual assault. 14 September 1944 | Two Polish prisoners were executed by hanging in the Auschwitz II-Birkenau camp: Józef Jasiński (b. February 23, 1917, no. 87026 - in the picture) was sentenced to death for sending a letter outside the camp in which he described conditions in the Flossenbürg and Auschwitz camps. Before the execution, the sentence was read out to him. In the justification, the SS stated that if the letter had fallen into the hands of enemy intelligence, it could have harmed the good reputation of the German government. Mieczysław Borek (b. March 23, 1922, no. 763). In Auschwitz I, he served as an assistant to the blockmaster of the bunker in Block 11, and often also as an interpreter for the SS men. In Block 11 he had the opportunity to listen to the radio and pass on the news he heard. In 1944 he was transferred to Birkenau. On June 8, he was placed, along with Józef Jasiński, in the penal company after interrogation by the Political Department as a result of being accused of listening to the radio and relaying radio broadcasts.

16 September 1934 | A French Jewish girl, Lisa Akar, was born in Bar le Duc. She arrived at #Auschwitz on 16 April 1944 in a transport of 1,500 Jews deported from Drancy. She was among 1,112 of them murdered in gas chambers after the selection.
