What do six women who encountered Russell Brand over a decade have in common? Sexual violence. Seven charges. Six complainants. Allegations spanning 1999 to 2009. Count 1: Rape (1999) A woman says Brand raped her in a Bournemouth hotel room after a Labour Party conference event. She testified that he was partially undressed and behaving strangely before pushing her onto a bed and raping her. Count 2A: Attempted indecent assault (2001) An MTV employee says Brand grabbed her forearm and tried to drag her into a men's toilet. She said she managed to pull herself free. The judge removed the original indecent assault charge and substituted attempted indecent assault. Counts 3 and 4: Sexual assault and rape (2004) A woman says Brand grabbed her breasts at a Soho bar before pulling her into a toilet and orally raping her. She also testified that he later exposed himself in a car and demanded oral sex, laughing when she refused. Count 5: Sexual assault (2004–2005) A Choice FM employee says Brand pinned her against a wall during the working day and touched her body aggressively. She said three people accompanying him witnessed the incident but did nothing. Count 6: Rape (2009) A woman says Brand removed a condom and anally raped her despite her telling him to stop. She testified that they had previously engaged in consensual sexual activity and described the assault as one of the most painful experiences of her life. Count 7: Sexual assault (2009) A Channel 4 worker says she was pressured into massaging Brand so he would continue working on a project. She testified that he placed his head in her lap, bringing his face against her genital area. She said she subsequently reported the incident to her manager. All six women testified during the prosecution's case. Brand has pleaded not guilty to every charge. The jury must now decide whether the prosecution has proved each allegation beyond reasonable doubt.
