We look forward to continuing to lead the discussions, with bold, actionable ideas that champion responsible economic growth for all Canadians.
From everyone at Century Initiative, we wish you a safe and happy holiday season.
As we reflect on the year, we’re grateful for the many opportunities to contribute to a shared vision of a bigger, bolder Canada.

Immigration cuts have a cost & we need gov'ts to think creatively about decisions that will make us more competitive to offset those cuts. Political instability & accumulation of excessive debt worsen the problem.

89% of new parents (outside Québec) received parental leave in 2021, but rates are ⬇️ for Indigenous, immigrant, & self-employed parents. Canada needs to improve wage replacement to ensure equitable access to parental leave. A key to family well-being.

Canada’s immigration system drives growth & enriches multiculturalism, but a new report by @ICCIC & @ConfBoardofCda reveals economic immigrants are most likely to leave.
We know retaining immigrants is key to sustaining growth & dev. Let’s build a future where immigrants thrive.
#Immigrants are leaving #Canada in record numbers, particularly the high-skilled immigrants Canada urgently needs. Read @inclusion_ca/@ConfBoardofCda's new study: “The Leaky Bucket 2024: A closer look at immigrant onward migration in Canada” to learn more.

While Ottawa has already taken in this direction, it is a reactive response to what is inherently a systemic problem that requires long-term planning to solve.
Immigration does not exist in a vacuum, and we can’t keep treating it as such.

Indigenous-led projects fuel growth, with Indigenous peoples contributing $49B to Canada’s GDP in 2020. But challenges are pervasive. To foster reconciliation & reach a $100B Indigenous economy, we must remove barriers to infrastructure & financing for Indigenous businesses.
Canada’s push for affordable child care is driving demand, but only 28% of children under 5 had a regulated space in 2021. Barriers like educator shortages remain, especially for marginalized communities. Expanding spaces is vital for child well-being & workforce inclusion.
1/2 The @Haisla_Nation on Canada's west coast is a powerful example of Indigenous leadership driving sustainable development. With the @Cedar_LNG project, the community demonstrated how deep-rooted environmental stewardship can fuel future prosperity for all Canadians.
2/2 When Indigenous communities thrive, the entire country benefits, which is why we identified growth and development of the Indigenous economy as a key opportunity in this year’s scorecard. Together, we can create a stronger, more sustainable future.

There’s more to responsible growth than abstract demographic projections. This approach resonates with economists, but Canadians need to see how this delivers value to their lives.

1/3 @Environics_Inst's Syrian Refugee Lived Experience Project brings to life stories of refugees 5 yrs after arriving in Canada. It's a great reminder of the strengths of our immigration system, community engagement & that we are & can continue to be a welcoming place.
2/3 As we see more negative coverage of immigration, it is important we also take time to challenge popular narratives by looking at what is working & to celebrate & share successes. We can continue to be a beacon of light in an ever-changing world.
