Why I love teaching sixth formers. Such a lovely, thoughtful gesture - Also 10 points for the elite creativity of this one 🤣🤣🤣

Something incredibly minor happened today which actually went a long way regarding feeling valued. The HT’s PA who is also our HR rep walked past me and said “I’ve noticed it’s your big day soon!” That little gesture was all it took. Nothing showy, I just felt seen!

Just acknowledging it’s my birthday in a few days was really nice. For a second I didn’t feel like an employee number, brought the personal side back for a second!

Another reason I love my job! I got my Y13s in a computer lab to plan a 15m micro teach of ways of studying the brain. Forgot I sent a student an email last year with a picture of my cat meeting the pet rock they kindly gifted me. I present you their resource…

My absolute favourite quote from a wedding I attended tonight was “F**K OFF THERE’S NO WAY IT’S MR. KELLY”

Asked a kid today how they felt about the exam and they just broke. Tears just flooded out… it literally broke my heart. We had a MASSIVE pep talk before they went in and they emailed after to say “you calmed my nerves and now I feel like it went well” WE LOVE TO SEE IT! ❤️

Kids can give you the biggest smile! I’ve just gone back to work after being off with sinusitis and this was left on my desk 🥰🥹

I don’t have a #SWOTW this week, it’s a HUGE one! I’m running the attachment egg project where the kids have to raise a polystyrene egg as their own baby. Not only are the kids of board, the whole academy staff body are humouring the daft project too! We love to see it!

I genuinely love teaching the kids I do! I’d like to introduce everyone to ‘Rock’ I was a neglectful parent by not taking him on the London trip but I have taken him home over half term to introduce him to Nellie the cat. 🤣🤣

Genuinely heartwarming experience today. A student who’s left to pursue a full time acting career returned with their mum to bring in gifts! Being told you’re someone’s favourite teacher and them being so generous and kind to come back to tell you is special!

7 years in to the profession and tonight I still got the old chestnut of “Are you sure you’re old enough to be their teacher?”

Reflecting on our Social Sciences trip I have 2 main takeaways: 1) The cultural capital kids are exposed to, without realising. 2) They let their guard down. My main joys weren’t about the educational aspect but conversations it garnered and the simple joys I overheard!

Unpopular take: I scrapped my EoT test for a WTM. I knew my kids were struggling with the schizophrenia topic so instead we focused on the skills needed eg decoding the questions, exam pace & stamina. My hot takes were “PEE in 3” and “RTFQ” READ THE FULL QUESTION. 1/2

They responded really well to this, both HPA and LPA learners took different things from the lesson, in our current system exam based stamina training is underestimated!

When the faculty (Psy, Soc, Bus, Ecn, Rs) make a joke about getting through January by taking turns to bake, and you make it serious by being the first in line to the judgement panel. I present to you my malteser traybake 🫡. I make no apologies for my email sign off!

As if my week couldn’t get any stranger, and I thought I’d seen it all… My Y12s admitted to putting a rock on my desk and writing on it ‘ROCK’ I’ve had some weird and wonderful gifts but this really takes the biscuit 🤣🤣🤣

#SWOTW One of my Y13s is leaving sixth form to pursue an acting career. I got one of the kindest compliments from their parent “Thank you so much for all your support and kindness towards [X] over the years.  I think you are one of those teachers that you never forget.”

Such a delightful experience earlier! I got summoned to the main reception and it was a kid who used to be in my form collecting her younger sister who wanted to have a chat with me 🥲. So heartwarming to know you’ve had a lasting impact!!

#SWOTW I always try to paint this stony-faced exterior but the kids see through it, I also told my Y12s I think it’s bonkers to buy a cat a Christmas present so they said “if you’re not bringing Christmas to Nellie - We will!”

@ShazDrama you’ll fall in love with my Y12s for this!
