I realised lots of you have failed to understand the level of season David Raya is having. The only individual goalkeeping season that can go head for head with Raya’s current campaign is Lev Yahin’s in 1963. The only goalkeeper to ever win the Ballon Dor. Leave David Raya entirely out of the “Best Goalkeeper in the League” narratives. Because he’s currently entered historical territory this season. Of course, we know he’s been outrageously elite the previous two seasons too as well, but this current campaign especially has felt different. Delicate moments, hostile atmospheres, the title pressure, huge knockout nights… but somehow his level of quality has almost never dropped. Not a single bit. A complete mentality monster. The amount of points and games he’s directly won Arsenal this season alone should tell people the territory David Raya has entered. It’s always felt like Arsenal are playing an entirely extra defensive system behind Saliba and Magalhães this season because of him. If Arsenal win the Champions League, and Spain wins or manages at least a third or fourth position in the World Cup this year (regardless if he’s the starting GK or not), then anything below a Top 3 finish in the 2026 Ballon D’or rankings for David Raya will be a shame to the entire football world. Because if football can always find a way to romanticise attackers for moments and numbers, then what David Raya is doing week in week out this season infinitely demands more respect and acknowledgment.
