We’ve spent this year highlighting women shaping agriculture, and we’re excited to see two of our own recognized.
Magan Lewis received the 2026 Demeter Award of Excellence, while Masha Trenhaile was recognized among East Central Illinois’ women leaders.
Congrats, Magan & Masha!

Introducing the 4th generation of soybean traits from @Bayer4CropsUS! Starting to make me feel old that I have worked with every soybean trait. Proud to represent all of them over the years. youtu.be/Lms75_JzT9Q

They should’ve never been placed on prime land, ever. Plenty of other options out there where nothing grows, like say, sand & rocks.

“These phrases survive because they sound nice and sell products. But let’s be clear: they’re designed to manipulate, not inform.”
Here’s the full, no-nonsense list of phrases that drive me nuts - because they’re misleading, fear-mongering, or just plain wrong:
Natural. As if nature guarantees safety. Cyanide is natural too.
Organic. A marketing label, not a health guarantee.
Bio-Sourced. A fancy way to say "comes from a plant," as if that makes it superior.
Boosts your immune system. No, it doesn’t. If it did, you’d be in the hospital with an autoimmune disorder.
Anything "free from" something. Usually a scare tactic. Free from logic, maybe?
Toxin-free. Everything is toxic at the right dose. Water can kill you too.
Chemical-free. This one is peak stupidity. Everything is chemicals, including you.
Clean beauty. What does that even mean? Are other products "dirty"?
Non-GMO. Science denial in a label. GMOs have saved lives.
Holistic. Often just a placeholder for "We don’t have evidence, but trust us."
Superfood. A marketing gimmick. There’s no such thing as a single magic food.
Detox. Your liver and kidneys do that. Stop falling for expensive snake oil.
Non-toxic. Meaningless. The dose makes the poison.
Made with real ingredients. As opposed to fake ones? What does this even mean?
Wholesome. Vague nonsense designed to make you feel good about buying something.
These phrases survive because they sound nice and sell products. But let’s be clear: they’re designed to manipulate, not inform.
Great job Lady Mustangs!!
