Fine Gayle, you can have the Breeder’s Cup next year, but we’ll take the Pelicans
“This party is Mrs. Benson’s way of saying if the Breeder’s Cup comes to New Orleans, this is how we do it,” Greg Bensel, Saints VP of communications. The invite list to Benson's Tuesday party at her Paris, Ky., horse farm included Gov. Jeff Landry, New Orleans mayor Helena Moreno, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, Ochsner Health CEO Pete November, developer Darryl Berger, along with officials with the Breeders’ Cup, Dubai Racing Club, Royal Ascot Racing & Japanese Racing Association.

Great story about Kentucky Colonels coach Hubie Brown’s colorful language, from the book Loose Balls by Terry Pluto…
Hubie could really cuss. We had a game in Virginia where there was no one in the stands. I was broadcasting it, and it was so quiet that you could hear the shoes squeaking, the ball hitting the floor on a dribble and banging against the rim. You could also hear Hubie and his imaginative cussing. I was trying to to talk as much and as loudly as I could, but Hubie was still going over the air. At halftime, Hubie’s wife called and said, “For God’s sake, you can hear Hubie swearing on the radio. Can’t you do something?”
I said I’d try to talk a little louder.
—Van Vance, radio broadcaster
Someone in Paris or Lexington let Ms. Benson know we'd be happy to host a few Pelicans games for her in Kentucky.
Could the @BreedersCup come to @fairgroundsnola
New Orleans Mayor Helena Moreno and Saints & Pelicans owner Gayle Benson went from Paris, France to Paris, Kentucky to work on landing the big event.

Ted McClain was one of my favorite players on that team, Gilmore, Issel, Dampier as well.
Yes!!! I can’t retweet this enough so please do it.
The winningest ABA team deserves recognition!
Been advocating for a Bourbon Entertainment District for years. Sell the Yum Center to a group that owns the team. Include nearby PARC properties. Get rid of the LAA and TIF to incentivize other Downtown developments. Redeem bonds in 2027 which terminates UofL lease! Renegotiate!

This stat from the Atlanta Braves is wild 👀
In 2025:
⚾ Baseball business → $51M income
🏙️ Mixed-use business → $68M income
The real estate+ businesses surrounding the Braves generated 34% MORE operating income than the baseball team itself.

For those of you that don’t know, this is Dan Issel 🐴💙🤍
Dan turned 78 today.
He was a Kentucky standout and is the leading scorer in school history.
He was an ABA star and champ and when combined with his NBA stats, is the 14th leading scorer in pro hoops history.
