ALT FAQ: Are car seats or booster seats required for children riding in a taxi or ride-share vehicle (e.g. Uber or Lyft)? Drawings of a taxi and a passenger vehicle The legal responsibility to buckle child passengers in taxis and ride-share vehicles varies by province and territory. The risk of a child being seriously or fatally injured in a passenger vehicle in use as a taxi or ride-share vehicle is the same as in any other passenger vehicle. Caregivers should always use an appropriate car seat or booster seat when traveling in a taxi or ride-share vehicle, even if it is not required.
