The labor movement and the struggle for a working-class future
A new report from the CPUSA Labor Commission on its analysis of the U.S. labor movement
cpusa.org/article/the-labor-…
The U.S. labor movement today displays sharp contradictions. On the one hand, we see clear signs of progress and popular support for unions. But on the other hand, these signs exist alongside entrenched structural weaknesses within the unions, a hostile political environment, and the relentless anti-worker offensive of monopoly capital — the financial oligarchy — who remain fixated solely on maximizing profit.

Today our country lost an outstanding leader of the Mexican American people and the labor movement, Dolores Huerta. We dip our flag in her honor.

AI and the work of the CPUSA

This article argues that the CPUSA should use software and carefully governed AI as a force multiplier under collective, Marxist-Leninist control, but never replacing communist decision making.

The UN has again voted overwhelmingly to condemn the genocidal US blockade of Cuba. The blockade is a cruel US backed policy of forced starvation that must be ended. We send our unwavering solidarity to the people of Cuba and say down with the blockade and long live Cuba!

Dockworkers to take ‘Ports for Peace’ action on Oct. 30

“Imperialist wars are not a departure from the ‘normal’ functioning of the capitalist system,” the WFTU said. “They are the continuation of exploitation and competition by other means.”

NEW: On Friday, dockworkers at 111 ports in 22 countries and regions on five continents will stop work in a coordinated strike against war, according to the most recent information from the organizing unions.
More than 25 dockworkers’ unions have now signed on, from Marseille to Mumbai, Hamburg to Montevideo, Melbourne to Oakland. Days ago the count stood at about 100 ports in 17 countries, and that figure doesn’t include the dozens of unions in other sectors that have pledged support. Their demand is simple: no weapons and no military cargo through their ports. Nearly everything the world ships passes through the docks, and without the workers who load and unload it, nothing moves.
In France, the main dockers’ union says the country’s ports will be 95% shut. Italy, India, Greece and Turkey face 24-hour strikes, and Morocco and Cyprus will see stoppages of up to two hours, with rallies planned in port cities around the world. In Greece, metalworkers, ship-repair workers and young people are joining the dockers, and in the US, ILWU Local 10 is striking in Oakland and San Francisco. The unions are working from the Istanbul Declaration, signed in May, with each one deciding for itself how to take part. They are also fighting for their own jobs, against cuts from automation and for contracts, raises, shorter hours and safety.
The unions point to escalating wars in Ukraine and the Middle East and the danger of a generalized war. They condemn Israel’s new crimes in Hebron, carried out with the backing of the US, NATO and the EU. Israel’s lockdown of the city is now in its sixth day, with more than 3,000 Palestinians displaced, according to the UN. Palestinian unions have endorsed Friday’s action.
In Italy, the fight has spilled beyond the docks. The union USB has called for a nationwide general strike. Last night, the Italian government ordered transport workers back on the job last night. USB said it would defy the order and accept the steep penalties.
The unions are calling on workers and young people everywhere to stand with the dockworkers, saying “Ports for peace and the peoples, not launching pads for war.”
I’m reporting from Calabria, Italy, and I will be in Genoa tomorrow ahead of the strike to report on the ground during the mobilzation.

Tax the rich, don't cut social security!
Call, write, or visit your U.S. Senators and Representative to demand they oppose any closed-down commissions or attempts at benefit cuts or privatization of Social Security during the lame duck session before the new Congress is sworn in. Instead, vote to “Scrap the Cap” on income above $184,500 and make the rich pay on their full income like the rest of us. This will strengthen the Social Security system and make increased benefits possible for current and future generations.
Oppose all attempts during the lame duck session to increase funds for war instead of human needs! Sign onto the Congressional pledge to count every vote and recognize the results of the election!
Call 202-225-3121 today and ask for your U.S. Senators and Representative. Click here to send them a letter: actionnetwork.org/letters/ta…
Then, fill in your info to send a short letter to your elected officials. And please share with your coworkers, friends, family, and neighbors.

❓ War needs ports. What happens when the workers who run them say no?
🌎 October 30: dockworkers in 100+ ports on four continents do not work for war!

Le message d’aujourd’hui est clair : aucune répression, aucune interdiction de manifester n’arrêtera la mobilisation.
La colère est immense, la détermination encore plus.
Le gouvernement et le patronat doivent d’urgence répondre aux revendications sociales.

The unipolar world is dying
The Trump administration’s self-inflicted wounds are all symptoms emanating from a crisis of capitalism (and bourgeois democracy) in decline.
Something new is rising, and a lot of people are looking at socialism.
