Friday Safety Tip: Stay Together
Many lost and overdue hiker calls start when a group separates.
Let the slowest hiker set the pace, keep a strong hiker in back as a sweeper, stay within sight, and regroup at every intersection.
Thank You for Joining Us at Trunk or Treat!
Thank you to everyone in the community who came out and joined us for Trunk or Treat! It was great seeing so many families, costumes, and smiling faces throughout the evening.
We also want to thank our partners from Crescenta Valley
Water District, Los Angeles County Fire Department, @MontroseSAR, and @Angeles_NF for joining us and helping make the event a success. We hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween! #MontroseSAR #TrunkOrTreat #Community #Halloween #LACoFD #USForestService
With wet weather ahead, remember to slow down and leave plenty of space between you and the vehicle in front of you.
Here's the updated forecast for our weekend storm. Overall totals are trending a little lower, but there is still a fair amount of uncertainty in the exact storm track, so we have a 20% chance for double or half these amounts. #CAwx #SoCal #LAWeather
Tonight is the Night, Rain or Shine!
Bring the family and join us for an evening of Halloween fun at our Trunk or Treat & Movie Night, featuring special guest Juandini!
There will be candy, decorated vehicles, plenty of Halloween spirit, and a movie to finish out the night.
Parents, consider this your official reminder that all candy should be thoroughly inspected before consumption. Purely for safety reasons, of course.

Safety on our streets is a top priority. Deputies from the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station are currently increasing local traffic enforcement for e-bikes and e-motorcycles to help protect everyone on the road. 🚲👮
As a reminder, all e-bike operators must follow standard traffic signals, ride with the flow of traffic and yield to pedestrians. Helmets are legally required for all riders under 18 and anyone operating a Class 3 e-bike.
Additionally, off-highway e-motorcycles without functional pedals are strictly prohibited on public roadways and sidewalks. Let's work together to keep #LCF streets safe for everyone! 🛣️

Drive Safe in the Rain
With rain in the forecast, take extra care on wet roads. Rain reduces visibility and makes roads slick, increasing the risk of collisions.
Here are some tips to stay safe:
• Slow down – wet pavement takes longer to stop on.
• Turn on headlights – see and be seen.
• Increase following distance – give yourself extra space to brake.
• Avoid sudden moves – brake, turn, and accelerate gently.
• Never use cruise control in the rain.

If you are in need of sandbags for your property, here is some information on where to obtain them.
Rain is in the forecast for this Wednesday (10/21) and Thursday (10/22), so now is the time to prepare! 🌧️☔️
Altadena residents are encouraged to join us tomorrow, October 20th, for the Altadena Community Sandbag Event at Loma Alta Park from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Additional Community Sand Bag Events will be scheduled across LA County in the coming weeks and months.
All #LACoFD fire stations have ready-to-fill sandbags available, with sand provided at select locations.
📍 Pick up ready-to-fill sandbags: Your local #LACoFD community fire station
🔗 Find sand & ready-to-fill sandbags near you: lacounty.pw/sandbags
Also remember to increase your following distance!
With rain in the LA County forecast this week, take a few minutes to prepare your vehicle:
-Inspect your tires for proper tread and inflation.
-Replace worn windshield wipers for clear visibility.
-Slow down and increase your following distance on wet roads.
Drive carefully, allow extra travel time, and arrive safely.

If You’re Lost, Stop Moving
One of the most important things you can do if you become lost in the wilderness is simple: stop moving.
Searching for a moving person is much harder than searching for someone who stays in one location.

Attention, #LCF! Today marks the start of California Flood Preparedness Week, and with a Super El Niño potentially on the horizon, now is the time to safeguard your property. 🌧️
Heavy and continuous rains can lead to unexpected flooding, debris flows and mudslides. Here are a few ways the #LCF community can prepare: clear gutters of debris, have sandbags ready, prepare an emergency kit and sign up for local weather alerts at LCF.ca.gov/Alerts. 💧
The #CityOfLCF is providing 24-hour access to sand and sandbags at the following locations:
✔️ LA County Fire Station #19 (1729 Foothill Blvd.) – sandbags only
✔️ LA County Fire Station #82 (352 Foothill Blvd.) – sandbags only
✔️ Camp 2 (4810 N. Oak Dr.) – sand and sandbags
✔️ Top of Ocean View Blvd. (2191 Highrim Road) – sand only
➡️ For additional temporary sandbag distribution sites in Los Angeles County, visit PW.LACounty.gov/DSG/Sandbags.
Taking these steps today can make all the difference for your home and family this winter!
Yesterday, we participated in the Great ShakeOut. Deputies checked critical facilities, our Emergency Operations Center was activated, and damage reports were relayed by our Disaster Communications volunteers using ham radio.
