If you’re blowing past redlines - like pentesting pre-release - on a product whose core offering centers on security, you have lost the plot re your client base. Putting Proton into review and looking at alternatives for users who require protection for high risk environments
New: you think you know Proton, but you really don't. I spoke to 8 current employees, got Slack chats, meeting audio, and an AI manifesto written by its CTO. “That’s bullshit and loser thinking,” Yen wrote. “Stop thinking always of how to be slower, and focus more on how to be faster.” CEO Andy Yen critiques AI in public. But inside, he is pushing everyone to use AI, even those with security concerns 404media.co/manifestos-fear-…

A city population estimated btwn the size of Amsterdam and Paris has been reduced to 5 square km with barely any visible footprint. That’s what a genocide looks like, 1 year later. #KeepEyesOnSudan
🚨New Report 🚨 One year after RSF captured El-Fasher and massacred civilians, @HRL_YaleSPH finds the city of El-Fasher is a ghost town. Abnormal vegetation overgrowth in El-Fasher corroborates a lack of civilian, animal, and vehicle presence after RSF's mass killings. Central Market in Daraja Oula is the only major market with visible activity out of 9 markets assessed. #KeepEyesOnSudan 🛰️@Vantortech ysph.yale.edu/hrl/publicatio…

NEW @HRL_YaleSPH report finds vegetation growing wild throughout most of El Fasher one year after the massacre. Few signs of civilian presence have been detected.

This could have been stopped - by RSF leaders, by the RSF's main foreign enabler (the UAE), or by the USG or others with the capacity to intervene. Diplomatic efforts were woefully insufficient.
In four days, it will be a year since the siege of Sudan's El Fashir ended in a bloodbath. This is the story of a group of young doctors, nurses and volunteers who stayed at the last functioning hospital until the very end. With @hafiz54472061 economist.com/interactive/18…

The US and Russia seem to be pushing for the next UN Secretary General to be a UAE official, @Lana_Nusseibeh, who has helped underwrite mass murder and mass rape in Sudan and then lied about it, as she is doing here.

Drone strikes in Sudan killed at least 306 people in just the first three weeks of October. Homes, markets, hospitals and displacement sites have all been hit. UN rights chief @volker_turk urges both parties to commit to a ceasefire. news.un.org/en/story/2026/10…

I understand why @Lana_Nusseibeh is seeking to be UN secretary-general. Ambition. I don't understand why the US or other countries would support her given her role in underwriting mass murder and mass rape in Sudan, in a campaign Trump and Biden both defined as genocide.

This is the single biggest story in #Sudan right now and it's not getting anywhere near enough attention Sudan faces the Four Horsemen: War, Famine, Death and Conquest - in an apocalyptic spiral while authorities deny the issues & global response budgets shrink. #KeepEyesOnSudan
🚨Just as some #Sudan farmers try to plant after fighting moves on, El Nino is pummeling them with the worst drought in decades. WFP projects more than 1mln people will enter severe hunger as a result, and is unlikely to be able to help them. Our story: reuters.com/world/new-famine…

The camp leaders also said: we can show you the graves. And we drove with them through a dusty field on the outskirts of the camp to the site where they bury the dead. Graves like these are the true measure of DOGE and the new US humanitarian model. /end

They brought us to talk to camp residents who had lost friends and neighbors last year, when the US gave even *less* for Sudan than they have this year. These families gave wrenching accounts about watching people they knew dying as US-funded projects were suspended.

What does this mean for the people there? I asked camp leaders in Gozalaslam camp whether the aid cuts since last year had killed people. They nodded vigorously and said “ktir, ktir” (many, many). Children starved, women with labor complications were unable to get basic care.

Worse still, current food stocks are due to run out at year’s end due to funding gaps. Uncertain whether they will have supply beyond December. Related: US (biggest WFP donor) funding to Sudan dropped from 2024 to 26 by $368m, as WFP funding dropped from $620m to $276m.

Meanwhile the World Food Programme has had to massively cut back its food deliveries in the world’s largest hunger crisis. They are struggling to even provide a half-ration to starving people, and are cutting out hundreds of thousands of refugees entirely.

I met Sudan’s heroic Emergency Response Rooms - brave community volunteers who have done amazing work throughout the war. They kept aid flowing in RSF-occupied areas even when int’l orgs pulled back. Until DOGE, that is. An ERR leader told me: “The USAID cuts broke our backs.”
