Dear Auditor General Peters, I am writing as an Albertan to request the prompt completion, tabling, and public release of the Office of the Auditor General’s examination into procurement and contracting processes involving Alberta Health and Alberta Health Services. This examination concerns matters of significant public interest, including governance, oversight, the expenditure of public funds, procurement practices, and potential conflicts of interest. Albertans deserve access to the Auditor General’s independent findings as soon as the work is complete. Transparency is particularly important when questions involve our health-care system and substantial amounts of public money. Regardless of what the examination ultimately finds, the public should have the opportunity to read the evidence, findings, conclusions, and recommendations of the independent Auditor General for themselves. I respectfully ask your office to: Confirm the current status of this examination and provide an updated anticipated date for completion and release. If the examination is already complete and ready to be provided to the Legislative Assembly, I respectfully request that it be tabled and made public without unnecessary delay. The independence of the Auditor General’s office is extremely important, and timely public reporting is an essential part of maintaining confidence in that independence and in government accountability.
